I usually race my pro/et bike but last Wed night I rode out to Portland International Raceway to bracket race my stock 83 GS1100. First time run I cut a .009 light bogged real bad and ran a mid 9, 1/8 mile by the way, second time I ran 7.61@94.55, dialed 7.60 first round went red on the tree by .007 and a big wheelie so I ran the pass out to a 7.54@94.88.
We run on a ladder set by reaction time, split tree .5 full or .4 pro with no electronics allowed and my .009 only got me 6th qualified, man tough bunch of racers. Next week my surgeon should let me back on my dragbike, it has been a month since I had my shoulder operation and can’t wait.

Spent the last three days playing with the bikes. Had a great time up at Martin. A few of us camped out at the track. Jeff cooked us a couple of turkeys. Met a few new faces.

A lot of bikes made the Sunday show. We ended up with three classes. Pro E/T, Protree E/T and Street E/T. Pro E/T had a quick 8 run off. All three of the drag bikes made it in which kinda sucked, but no one wanted to sand bag during the time trials.

I ran the stock GS1100 in street. I have decided not to quit my day job. Open time trials I first ran a 12.7 with a 340 lite. Bike was heading for the sky. Second run had a 540 bulb and ran a 12.12. First qualify ran the right lane again with a 12.12 with a 6. Second qualify was a 12.09 with a 480 in the left.

Made it past the first round with a 1 second light! Only reason I won was because the guy backed out of the beam or failed to stage. I looked in the mirrors for him and he was no where to be seen, then I noticed my win light was on so I shut it off. Ran a 12.4.

Round two I get stuck in the left. I did a 540 to his 6 something. I look in the mirrors at around a 1000' and he must be 30 - 40 feet back so I blip knowing I have breakout potential. Around he comes and now I can't catch him! #@$^@$&%% I run another 12.3.

Now very ****ed at my inability to drive a bike, team pays my way to next round for fun to see how this will effect my blood pressure. Problem is that I chooped last two passes and the sun is way higher now. I have no idea where it will run. I decided to leave the 1212 stand and hope for the best. Guy dials a 1213. He gets me on the tree by 0.1 or so and holds the nose just in front of me the entire distance. I duck and hope I can push him thru, but I can't The bike runs another 12.3 and I went home with my tail between my legs, this time.

1st time ever out there. Was running mid 8's all morning during time trials, couldn't get the darn thing to hook up. It would spin all the way thru third gear. Figured I'd be safe dialing an 8.0. Wouldn't you know it , first round of elims the bike hooks up pretty good and I run a 7.7 @ 91.3mph. Anyway I had a blast, now I have an idea what the bike is capable of.
    Doze.
Those are good numbers. I run 7.7s with my 1100, low 12s high 11s in the 1/4 at 105 - 110 MPH in the 1/4. 205 pound rider. Have fun!!!!

Lets see.... you're up to 1260cc, multi-lockup and only been tuning on it for a few weeks

I bet a coke that you'll be running 1.27 60ft and be in the 5.80 range before July

I think the 1.30 is about all it has. I don't know if I want to go any faster unless they do something with the shutdown. They ground the entire track perfectly smooth, but only went about 100' into the shutdown. It's got some good bumps down there. They might try to do something about it. They are offering some big money in a quick 16 car class. The slowest car in the field was a 9.01. There were at least five 7 second cars/dragsters there. I don't think they were happy with the shutdown.

I got my eyes closed well maybe just one

    Way to Go Ryan !!

I remember when you said you wanted a 9.90 bike, well you busted that goal by a mile. So is 8.90 around the corner??

I think you'll be in the high 60ft 1.20 range very soon.

    Jake don't look now

Jake you may not want to read any further.

Got the clutch working really well. Best pass
    1.30 60'
    3.82
    5.98 @ 113 mph at the 1/8th
    7.83
    9.53 @ 135 mph 1/4 mile

The other passes were two 6.01 1/8th mile and 9.55 @135 -136 1/4 mile. And finally in the first round of eliminations backed up the five second pass with a another 5.98 1/8 mile and then 9.68 @119. The other guy did a wheelie so I was dumping bad at the finish line.

Things were great till round two when I snapped the throttle open so fast it bogged the motor. The clutch came out before the engine caught up with itself. I always seem to have that trouble when it gets really cold out. It was only about 43 deg in the second round.

You need my data logger. I contacted the guys at Eagle and they claim that they are working on it.

I ended up making some big changes to the clutch. replaced a bunch of the fibers. Added about 8 more lbs. Removed the counter springs from 2 of the arms. The other 4 arms have some custom springs I got from my dad. Alot lighter than those that came with the lockup. Into a 20 mph head wind it ran 9.73 9.74 9.72. The last two were back to back 1.36 60'. The rpm was dipping pretty good off the line so I need to take out a little static.

The second pass I did my burnout in first gear instead of third. Just to give it a try. I let go of the front brake and started riding it out. I started rolling off the throttle and going for the clutch. Right at that moment the rear tire hooked up and the bike shot forward. Picture this. Left hand in the air, right hand still on the bars, ass smacked into the back of the seat, and look of total fear on face. Somehow I got my hand back on the bar and saved it. Dont want to ever do that again.

Yesterday was the first points race at 131. The Shark lost at the tree but was a close race. 0.0001 seconds!

We were down to the last two rounds and some guy from IL wanted to test his mustang. I figured the guy was trying to get his license or something because I had not seen him make a full pass with the car. We were next in line to run so me and the kid stood behind the car to watch. I wish I had video taped it. Car starts to sway a little at about 300'. The driver seemed to want to try and correct it but it started to oscillate really bad. It ended up sideways and went into the wall around 1000'. I watched it slide down the wall, nose first and it looked like it was going to stop. The tires started to put off a lot of smoke and I could not see for a few seconds. Then, through the smoke I saw car rolling, 1, 2, 3 times (I guess it rolled 4). Then it finally stops. It seems like he still went through around 70 MPH or something. I was more interested in looking at the car.

The driver appeared unhurt. The car did not appear to have a whole lot of damage.

It took a long time to get the track cleaned up. I felt a few drops of rain and they ran two more cars. It looked like the car in the right lane started to loose tracktion, then they called the race.

So, we need to wait till next weekend to see how the kid does.

Next weekend is an all weekend event. We have an all bike meet on Sunday, normal points on Saturday and Friday night madness. I am thinking to take out my bike for its maiden run on Friday. We will see how the weather holds out.
