What are the general tech rules for vintage race bikes?
Fabulous bike! Your body position is spot on for that apex!
I've just been wondering what are the general rules regarding performance mods, in vintage racing? Like your GXSR rims, they come from a later bike. I would think that performance mods would be restricted to the vintage time period of the bike.

The 17 inch wheels were allowed because of safety concerns about the original wheels (who wants to race on 30 year old mags?) and the availability if quality tyres. Wheel sizes are limited to 3.5 inch front and 5.00 inch rear but there are not many 5.00 inch rims about.
Original engine blocks must be used, eg no APE big blocks, and no more than 1300 cc. Forks, brakes, frames and swing arms must also be of the period for the class (pre December 1982 in this case, but we also run pre 72 and pre 89 classes. There are junior and senior classes with 600cc being the cut off).
There some really cool bikes competing and we have had a 500 GP rider build a Yoshi GS(X)1100 which was great to compete against, and watch disappear into the distance.
Australia and Britain run similar rules and there is a meeting each January at Phillip Island where the three countries compete on Classic and Post Classic bikes. I'm sure entries from other countries would be welcome, so organise a container load and have a blast at one of the best tracks in the world.
I think that there is a link to a video clip earlier in this forum of one of the Poms on a Suzuki XR69 racing at this event.

Fun, but not any cheaper?
Just dawned on me: You guys burn Methanol? How'd that come about? Is that side by side with gas burners?
For all the mods you guys need to do, is it just as expensive as working a newer bike?

P.S. I was reading the class rules from WERA concerning Vintage bikes. So many years after 1982, racers must have to choose certain bikes based on available parts. The GS must be one of the most popular choices.1982 GS1100G-
