    Russ Collins passes

Got word that Russ Collins (the prince of the big bore four) passed away this afternoon in Hawaii.
Even if You don't know who Russ was, take a moment to thank him. RC Engineering gave birth to everthing performance for the japanese 4 cylinder motorcycle. His first employees were two kids named Vance and Hines, giving them their start.
    God Speed Russ.

He had been working with race car fuel injection for years. Blueprinting and balancing the injectors themselves, I think. His 3 engine Honda drag bike was awesome, but it did not put away Terry Christianson's 2 engine Norton. His next bike, the Sorcerer 2 engine Honda drag bike was able to beat Christianson's Norton. It was built by Byron Hines.

To those of us outside the US he added glamour and showmanship to the sport - and raised it's profile.

                  RIP indeed.

Wow, it saddens me to hear of his passing. He was definitely a pioneer in motorcycle drag racing, the 4into1 exhaust header... Then in fuel injection systems... What a great man he was.

I wish I would have met him

This is sad news indeed - the man was a legend

I am going to stop by Sunset Motors and see if T.C. has any pictures he may share.

first heard of him when i played with a kz65o and seen an rc eng ad. asked what happened to that company and found it became VH. And more sad news a great man in local drags and NHRA history Richard Doane passed away last week. One of the best stock racers ever!

Just so you know, RC Engineering did NOT become Vance & Hines. Terry Vance & Byron Hines STARTED with Russ Collins at RC Engineering & then went off on their own. They were taught by Russ.
