    Ebay Bar End Mirrors

    Installed a new set of bar end mirrors on the GS over the weekend. At less than $35 shipped they weren't too expensive and the quality is superb. The item can be viewed here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=120648189797

    I just wanted to add a couple notes. First of all, the listing does not display the fact that the mirror arms can actually be mounted in two different directions. The end where the mirror comes out is also threaded and the set screw can be installed in either direction as seen here:


    This greatly increases the possibilities when installing. The arms that the set screws attach into are deeply notched to keep from falling out. They are however very smooth and do not provide a good surface to keep the mirror stalks from shifting. I counteracted this problem with a few strips of friction tape as seen here:



    This seems to have helped when tightening down the screws. I also put a turn of tape around the expanding sleeve to add some grip against the inside of the handlebar tube.I have not yet taken the bike out and adjusted the mirrors to their final position. When I do though I believe I will mark them and then reinstall the screws with some threadlocker to keep from vibrating loose. Overall I am happy with these at the moment.

      Definitely. There is another style floating around on ebay that looks much more bulky with a large clamp mounted to the end. I think these are very clean.

        Anyone got a picture fitted? I have the other type but like these better. How heavy are they? Heavier the better in my experience....

          Agreed. I'm looking into a pair of "something" for the 850. Having one bike (650L) eating at my total bike budget for new or as new stock parts, is leading me down the "if it will work and cost less" path, with the 850.
          I'll still keep all the stock stuff that I have for the 850, cleaned, labled, and stored in a box or two, in the shop, JUST IN CASE I get a wild hair and want to return it to completely stock form.

                  Oops didn't realize I didn't post the pics in both, they're at the bottom. I found that mounting the mirrors in the top position, perpendicular to the bars, provides much more adjustability. When mounted in the end position the set screw only provides the same adjustment that can be achieved by rotating the mount in the bars. If I were the ebay sellers I would definitely be marketing this feature, everyone likes more options.

                    I really like the mirrors. I'm undecided on stock ones or on bar ends, although for cosmetic reasons bar ends would be nicer.

                    Landshark, your bars look the same as mine, are they?



                    If so, how do you find the width with the bar ends added?

                      Mine are Renthal MX bars, i cant really see yours in the picture.
                      I dont think they are too wide(The bars themselves are no wider than the stock bars i pulled off), but it might limit your lane splitting abilities.

                        Aaah cheers for that! Mine are BikeIT from memory and are similar width to stock, so that should be ok if I go that path then. I try to avoid traffic so lane splitting shouldn't be an issue

                          I just changed from my too-tall stock bars and vibration happy mirrors. Overall The width is not really an issue, only about 2" more than adding bar end weights. Once again, top mounting the mirrors brings them in some.
