    Fuel leking from air box drain tube

    So I went to start my bike today after installing a new battery and I noticed fuel coming out of a hose that comes from the air box. I'm not talking about a drip here or there but a almost steady stream. After the bike is off and I turn the gas off, if i move the bike more gas comes out of the tube. Could there be a puddle of gas in my air box from an overflow of gas into the crabs? Bike has been sitting since last fall and barely any gas was in the tank. Bowel and/or pins clogged allowing too much gas? Any help would be appreciated. Before this I noticed some gas coming from the tube that connects from the top of the cylinder head to the air box because it was disconnected.

    Your tank petcock has leaked all your fuel into the oil sump. You need to change your oil, fix the petcock, make sure it's not in the PRI (prime) position (which could be causing all the mentioned problems). Put the petcock in the RUN or RES position to run the bike. You might want to test the petcock for proper operation as well. You'll need to have a hose attached to it going to a coffee can or a container of some sort, put some gas in the tank, turn it to RUN. No gas should flow. Turn it to RES, no gas should flow. Turn to PRI and gas should come out. This is a vacuum operated petcock, so if you put a vacuum on it (suck on the vacuum line), while in the RUN/RES positions gas will then flow.

      Welcome to the world of 25 year old neglected motorcycles. All your gas is now inside your engine, mixing with the oil. Not good. This is actually a very common problem related to your carb float needles allowing too much gas to flow, and a petcock problem (either someone left it on Prime, or it's leaking). I recommend you change the oil, rebuild the carbs, and either replace the petcock or set the lever where it belongs (test the petcock to make sure it's ok).

        What usually happens is that corroded grunge from inside an old petcock gets into the carbs and props open the float needles.

        This most often happens after moving the petcock lever for the first time after a long nap.

        You have to replace the petcock, pull the carbs, and (if you've already cleaned the carbs and replaced all the o-rings) at minimum pull the float bowls and floats to make sure the needle valve seats are clean.

        None of this is very difficult, and there's lots of help available for every step.
