    300 miles on the 1000G today

    I met my brother in law Ron this morning in Anaheim. We super slabbed it to Elsinore Via the 91 and 15 freeways, then took 74 through Perris, Hemet, and over the mountain and down into Palm Desert. Headed West on 111 to Banning where we took 243 back up over the mountain and back to 74 through Idyllwild. Took 74 all the way back to San Juan Capistrano, and picked up the 5 back to Anaheim.

    Beautiful day, and a nice ride. Ron's Victory Vegas actually works pretty well for him.

    Some of 74's twisty parts East of Hemet were a bit rough, but its still great. There was some sand and snow melt on the road on 243. There were patches of snow in areas too, but it wasn't cold.

    Probably 80 miles on the Interstate.

    If you are in the area, take CA 243. Its really nice. For what its worth, US 74 East of Hemet blows away the part from Elsinore to Capistrano, as does all of CA Route 243.

    Sounds like a great ride Combat. I've been to Lake Elsinore and taken the 74 back down to SJC. The view off that cliff overlooking the lake is amazing, you can almost see Steve racing around the lake... 74 going up or down right there is a handful too! Thanks for sharing.

    I've read the 850G is perhaps the smoothest running engine Suzuki ever made, and since you have both the 850 and 1000G, can you share the differences between them? (And why don't you have an 1100G too?)

      I vastly prefer the 1000G. Way better low end and mid range power, plus about 500 fewer RPM at cruising speeds. A lot of the power difference I think is the higher compression of the 1000. A 1000G pulls fairly smartly at 2500 RPM. Mine here needs a carb synch, and idles roughly. (I forgot to bring the tools) It seemed super smooth at 4500 RPM though, just about 70 indicated. The difference in smoothness compared to an 850 is negligable in my experience. I own 2 850G's and have owned 4 others in the past, including buying one new from the dealer.

      My brothers and I prefer the 1000G.

        You mean this view?

          For all of those reasons listed, I too prefer the 1000G's.
          Thus, I sold/traded the 850. No reason to keep it. It didn't get ridden. The 1000's did.

            Vibration? 850? 1000? 1100?

            Maybe the 850 is smoother, but the rest are smooth enough. I honestly never noticed any vibration on any properly functioning four cylinder GS except at extreme RPMs. If they are out of synch or have loose bolts here and there you might feel something buzz once in a while.
            And the big ones are lighter and faster, with more torque everywhere.
