    Chain Type?

    I have searched my clymer manual and online and cant seem to find what im looking for.

    So, my issue this time is I believe I need to get a new chain for my 82 GS450L since the adjusters are all the way back and the chain is still loose.

    I have seen that there are different types of chains such as 530, 520, and probably others. In the manual it says that it is a continuous chain and so therefore im not sure if I need to get one of those or if I can change over to an o ring chain. (I would assume that this would be fine)

    MAIN QUESTION: Is what size of chain do I get? 530/520? What?

    The chain must match the sprockets. If you are buying o-ring chain, you'd better get these too, to protect the investment. Worn sprockets on a new chain is a temporary fix.
    If you are DIYing it, the clip-type master link is the ez way to go but you can peen it together yourself too. With a little research hereabouts you will find info on this. I haven't all the links to these posts at hand

    I think the 520 is a narrower chain than the 530 and therefore lighter.

      Your bike has a 530 chain. As mentioned, you need both chain and sprockets. Z1 Enterprise is the forum favorite supplier of choice for such products.

          Damn. alright sorry, but I am over at Z1 and there are many different sizes of the rear sprocket. Which is stock / which should I get?
