Did you guys look at that Vin stamp? Shouldn't everything line up perfectly? Looked a little off. I know Suzuki's are; not sure about Kaw's.

I just went out and checked the stamp on my 1984 KZ1100R, mine lines up very nicely. In 1982 it was a new run of that model, so it is possible the stamps would be more crude. Good observation!

Thanks for the clarification, Big T. Gotta love anything with 8 spark plugs.

I see the owner states " from the May 1982 Cycle magazine S1 review article. 29 of these motorcycles were imported for AMA superbike racing in 1982, dealer cost was $10,999.00. No retail price was listed."

I don't recall Cycle doing a review on the KZ1000 S1 but they did do a Short on the 1983 KZ1000R2 which I saved. Their summary of the street version was "The R2 is the best one liter sport bike available - just right for those crazies who can work brakes and handlebars as well as they do throttles." Not all was perfect (but what is) as they noted the following. . . the R2 rear shocks springs must have come from the supplier for Army deuce-and-a-half trucks. The Cycle editors added the 1983 model borrowed the GPZ1100 cylinder head and cams which according to Kawasaki bumped HP to 85 bhp. What did that translate to in the quarter? 11.72 @114+mph. Price: N/A

Regardless, I do concur the S1 is the closest thing to Japanese inline 4 motorcycle art perhaps ever produced

I think Cycle World did that article. The Kaw guys are saying Oct '82.

Mitch Boehm of Moto Retro Illustrated did this article on the KZ1000 S1.

Sorry about the horrible image, I didn't do it!

whaddup with that ? (haven't read whole thread ... apologies if already addressed)

It was probably cheaper for Kawasaki to slap on the street instruments than make a special mount for the few bikes produced

The speedo was taken off, anyway. Racers don't use them

The Ebay add said the owner was going to try to make it street legal and ride it at one time.

The frame looks like a real S1 frame to me. Its got the extra brace on the left hand back motor mount. Plus the little tabs holding the plate that mounts the coils and CDI box to frame.

I was fortunate to own a S1 back in the 80's. Looks like the owner is going to keep the real S1 parts books. The one pictured in the listing is a photocopy of the original. Here is a photo of my parts book.

I see it just hit 60 grand. Bet this puppy hits about 75 grand before its over!!!! Damn wish I kept mine now after seeing that!!!
