    1150 speedo drive quick rebuild

I am on my second speedo drive( second was used). They both ended up making squeaky death sounds. I assumed that they were sealed units-i didnt look that closely. Member Azr mentioned in another thread that they are able to be disassembled, so i took a closer look.....
    Thanks Rob!

    As removed from cycle..

the pointer is pointing to the tiny setscrew that holds in the part the cable screws onto. due to old crash damage, this was a bit hard to remove. i screwed an old speedo cable onto then twisted it out with pliers.

i then disassembled it as much as i could, which was basically pulling out the gear, then let the whole mess soak. the driven gear shows a bit of wear, but i think it'll be fine.

everything clean and ready for reassembly. i packed grease into the housing then put it all back together.

now if the garage will ever break 50 degrees, ill put it on.....

Good info, stripped mine on the GS850 but also assumed they were a sealed unit
Just greased what I could, neither of my manuals stated it could be stripped down.

What kind of grease do you use for lubing the gear? I will need to do this as well. Thanks!

I see on other threads people have used white lithium grease and wheel bearing grease. I have both but will probably use wheel bearing grease.
