530 Chain Conversion - sprocket size & Chain length

Anyone want to remind me what sprocket sizes & chain length is needed for a GS1000 conversion to 530? The Z1 website doesn't work the way it used to on that front...

From Memory you have to go bigger (tooth wise) than stock to get the same sprocket relative diameter but that could be just hogwash & a smaller sprocket (dia) with the stock (15-43 from memory) tooth count might be what it needs...

    Thanks

15/42 is stock Dan so you need to move to something like an 18/50. I'm going off memory too but you want the largest sprocket you can fit in front for swingarm clearance.

    The stock chain is 96 links x 6/8" = 72"

For 530 it's 5/8" between pins so you need 115 links.

To keep the same front sprocket pitch diameter you just multiply the number of teeth by the pitch ratio of the two chain sets. Stock is a 15 tooth 630 with a 3/4" pin spacing, so you want 15 * (6/5) = 18 tooth. You do the same for the rear and get 50.4 teeth, so you need to decide if you want slightly taller or shorter gearing than stock. These bikes have lots of torque so I would go to 50 tooth for relaxed highway riding. For chain length you do the same thing, as Ed shows. 96 * (6/5) = 115.2, round down to 115 and there you go.

I am also planning on doing the 630-530 chain conversion on my 79 1000e. Does anyone know what motorcycle sprockets fit my 1000e? (Example, 1993 GSXR1000...) ??
          My Motorcycles:
22 Kawasaki Z900 RS (Candy Tone Blue)
22 BMW K1600GT (Probably been to a town near you)
82 1100e Drag Bike (needs race engine)
81 1100e Street Bike (with race engine)
          79 1000e (all original)
          82 850g (all original)
          80 KZ 650F (needs restored)

Why not get sprockets for a GS?

Go to Z1 Enterprises. They have detailed what specific sprockets fit.

If Z1 doesn't sort you out, I went to JT Sprockets website and searched for GS and GSXR parts. Turns out my 82 1100E uses the same sprockets, front and rear, as all years of the GSXR 1100. It looks like your 1000E is the same thing, but confirm that for yourself. The JT sprockets part numbers I think you want are the JTF 513.XX front (the XX is number of teeth) and JTR 816.XX rear.

Does the conversion require a spacer on the new front sprocket on the early GS750?

Anything that you convert from 630 to 530 will need a spacer

Anybody. The 450s and 550s use 530 chains.

That's what I thought. Jeff at Z1 said I didn't according to his JT manual.

A 530 chain is the same width as a 630 chain. The 3 in the size reference 3/8 roller width. Since the width is the same you don't need to worry about offset sprockets UNLESS the original sprocket was offset. In the case of the GS1000 I believe it WAS offset, thus you need a spacer. I'm not sure about the 750 however.

I didn't realize the smaller bikes used the same sprocket details as the big bikes. I just looked at the JT Sprockets catalog and they list the same part #'s for the 550 as for all the GSXR's, so they are all the same thing.
