Life is a balancing act, enjoy every day, "later" will come sooner than you think. Denying yourself joy now betting you will have health and money to enjoy life later is a bad bet.

Old, gray, tired, and as handsome as ever. We just walked around the block. Slowly. He's on the floor next to the couch I'm on. Snoring.

Our home is forever changed. The clicking of claws on wood floors silenced. Dog beds empty and unused, no constant companion and mooch in the kitchen. My night walks will now be in solitary.
From last Monday unitl this morning has been a long teary goodbye.

Thanks all. After his visit to the ER last Monday his situation hadn't improved. We did a follow up yesterday and the vet said its time. We spent our last night with him yesterday and sent him off this morning. It was a week full of tears and recalling happy memories from the last 12 years.
The picture was yesterday in one of his favorite spots - the sandbox in the shade. I took some pics this morning as I laid with him, but probably won't review them for quite some time.

I am so sorry to hear that Glen. Damn it sucks! The loss never goes away, you just learn to live with it.
But then, they are always with you.

That looks like a very nice dog Glen and must have been a wonderful companion.
I decided I won't have another dog after my landlord gave my only dog away while I was at work back in 1978'.
I will get another dog when I'm completely settled-in to a real community-of-care(Family?)and have someone to personally watch-out for the dog while I'm gone.
