#1 cylinder dead, stumped

    Rich..I replied to your PM. Seeing its #1 that will be getting the other body it shouldnt require a complete rack tear down. Remove the choke rod and that plunger and loosen the gang rails screws and the body should be pretty easily slid off the rack. I am heading out right now to strip this carb and throw the body in the Berrymans.

    I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

        I wish i had seen that when they were here..just a simple swap out and thats that. In any case heres his replacement. It went in the dip at PM. I looked it over extra good...LOL.

        Rich as you roll open the throttle to see the backside of the screws youll not that the factory swedged them so they wouldnt come out and get sucked into the cylinder. I would suggest you take the broke carbs butterfly plate out and run it up to Lowes or Home depot and get some screws that will screw in but a little longer than the originals. Idea is to have a tad bit of new screws sticking thru so you can squish the threads to be certain they wont come out. Doesnt take much and you can maybe pinch the screws with some needle nose vice grips to swedge out the ends a little.

        I would suggest something like loctite but I am in no way 110% certain it will hold up to the gas being sucked over the screws. Idea is to bugger up the ends so they dont come out..follow me here???

          Im wondering if the PO sold the bike because of the issues?? If so, now we know why. Again my apologies for not catching that.

                Well the bike is back together and running well. Special thanks to Chuck for his generosity.
                I have been riding the bike now for a couple of days. The end game for this bike was to sell it on when I was done. I bought it as something to keep me busy this summer before snowmobile season. I got to tell you though, the more I ride it the more I like it. Quiet, smooth, comfortable, it is an easy ride. It obviously doesn't go like my 1150E but if I was to choose one to ride 200 plus miles I think it would be the 850.
                Anyway thanks everyone for the input. I have never seen a carb crack like that.
