Is it ok to use 850GL forks on a 650GT?

I bought these thinking they would work as they are both the same diameter 37mm, but they are longer, the internals seem to be different and the holes for the axle are in a different place. Just wondering if any knows if there is any problem with sliding the old forks out of the triple tree and simply sliding these ones in?

First of all, are you SURE they are the same diameter?

We had a 650L here, it had 35mm fork tubes, our current 850s (L and G) both have 37s.

As far as the getometry goes, yeah, it's possible but definitely NOT recommended. The leading axle fork will lengthen the wheelbase, which isn't all that bad, but it will reduce the trail, making the bike rather twitchy.
