    Havent tried it on chrome yet. I'll try to see if it takes of surface corrosion off turn signals and a brake pedal

      If you are referring to the Metal Rescue, it works wonders on steel parts that are chromed and have rusted a bit, but not sure about turn signals, I would try Autosol or white brick on a polishing wheel.

      The end caps are pop metal, so I used the polishing wheel, the rest of the parts are steel and were quite bad and they came up beautifully including my brake pedal.

        I just ordered the por-15 three part kit for $35 from amazon and a few OEM O-rings and gaskets from parts outlaw for the petcock and fuel gauge assembly. Shipping was discounted to $4.99 using the promo code OUTLAW18. Not sure if it's a special or what but it saved $5. Looks like it'll be a few weeks before I can ride but I'll be glad to get this done.

        I ran the engine until it died, then drained the carb bowls in hopes of preventing any restarting issues. In the mean time I'll grab some of the Permatex stuff and seal the holes from the outside.

          My '82 GS650L sat for a while and got pretty rusty here in the South Florida humidity. I bought a POR 15 kit, put in the cleaner/degreaser, rinsed, put in the metal prep and rinsed it, drying it out with a shop vac. on reverse (works great). Called it a night and when I came back to the garage in the morning to do the actual sealer, I found the tank full of flash rust.

          Next, I put in Metal Rescue to get rid of the flash rust and it did a great job. I dried it out and filled it with rec. gas. Now, my question is, do I leave well enough alone and run an inline fuel filter or do I use the cleaner/degreaser, dry it and put in the sealer? Ahh, decisions, decisions! Thoughts anyone? btw, no pinholes,etc. on the tank.

            As long as the rust is truly gone I'd leave out the sealer.

              I only used POR15 once, in the 80s. I had sent out the tank on a '68 Royal Enfield 750 Interceptor to have it rechromed and a couple dents filled with braise and ground down. When it came back, it looked fantastic, but it leaked a little in a seam. I used the POR 15, following the instructions. It stopped the leak. It also covered what rust was in the tank. The tank had been plugged when it was rechromed. I can't say for sure how well it worked in the long term. I sold it after a decade. It was still fine then. I did it mostly in the house. It was winter in Fairbanks and the garage was unheated. It did stink up the kitchen pretty well when I was using it. A well ventilated area or a respirator would have been safer.

                Great thread. Is there a best way to coat/seal the fuel level unit before reinstalling it? It was coated in rust when I took it out but looks great after an extended dip in Evaporust. My plan is to just dip it the drained degreaser and the drained metal prep and then brush on the sealer.

                  I've never used any sealer on the sending units in any tank that I've lined. My thought is that if you have all of the rust under control on the sending unit, it should be good to go!

                    Really good info WingMan71. I used the POR 15 due to a small seam leak on a CB750 tank up by the neck, and I am impressed with how it flowed and of course stopped the leak. I did just about exactly what you said and Bob's my uncle.
