Evening photo adventure last night. From the north pier area, looking across river channel to the south pier.
26degF and calm (lot nicer than 16 and windy).
Too overcast for any sunset color but thought maybe some twilight color. Nope.

Had been calm air for multiple days and so lake had calmed down too.
So I went for pier light reflections.
THis about 15 minutes after non-existant sunset, and still not twilight color. But with a about one second shutter do get some blue sky color yet.

Ice sheets floating in channel. About one second shutter so cant really see individual ice pieces edges.
Can see people out on pier, dispite gates being closed. (an entire other subject I could yammer on about.)

    ƒ/11.0
    114.0 mm
    0.8
    200
Purposly small aperture (and slow ISO) so shutter not quick.

THis about another 15 minutes later at night, so good and dark (and a little further away down the channel).
Longer shutter, 5 second, so cant see the people that are moving (slow moving person is a black blurr), and reflection of lights smothed out over what little waves there were. Oh, and with longer shutter is easier to catch both becon lights on (but then they are on for less proportion of the exposure time).

Other story: I chatted with two different photogs out there, at different times. One was from the mid part of state, other was from way other side of state. Both were traveling up and down the lakeshore this weekend, going to various piers, both had itinerary of moon rise and moon set alignments and sunset alignments with lighthouses.
I had fun telling my wife about these guys (with the idea that maybe I am not so weird for going out locally for 2 hours or so har har har).
Have Found both of them on IG.

      Dave, I love those.
As far as my pic, the ice was hanging from a long ago fallen tree on the edge of the water. That part of the tree was maybe 5 or so inches above the water. I was standing on the stones at the waters edge and laying on the tree. The camera was on the other side sitting on the ice and facing the tree. Thank goodness for the tilting back screen.

Wow, I just saw a fish face.. thats what I love about the ice details. There's so much light and reflection play that there is much that is open to interpretation and imagination.

Thanks a bunch Dave. Having all these cool spots in what is basically my backyard makes taking landscape photos pretty dare easy ......once you get there. LOL. Poor Monty put up with us right from the beginning and became a real trooper. This is what we did to him when he was about 14 weeks old. He refused to be carried and did the whole hike in unassisted. That waterfall is coming directly off a glacier just above the edge out of site. Tents are below by the tarn. Haven't backpacked for years .....1998 seems like a lifetime ago.

When i first saw the fist pic it reminded me of the scene out of the sound of music where they were crossing the alps to escape. The meadow with all the flowers and the alps behind. Beautiful picture.

My mother used to breed Cocker Spaniels. She had one bitch a Black and white and one year she mated her with a Blue. The blues have part golden cocker spaniel in their breeding and this year out of the 7 pups we had 2 tri colour pups so i claimed one for myself..............great dog and way smarter than people give them credit for. Unfortunately i ran over it when he was 8 months old. Broke my heart

Thanks for the pics, (and great ones at that), your dog reminded me of Aragorn, my tri colour cocker

He was a real character and we were convinced he didn't think he was a dog. He was a Welsh Springer Spaniel and fairly large for his breed weighing in at 60 lbs. We kept him cut fairly short due to him being quite the burr and twig magnet.

Walking back from the beach one rainy morning and this appared about 100 yards from where i was.No way i could get it in one frame so took a bunch to see if i could make up a pic.

Can see a faint second, full double rainbow

This is 6 shots put together. Can see a fault along one of the power wires and that is the only blemish.

Taking a whole range of shots i had the camera on a bust of 3 shots, I then go through each burst to find the best one that is in focus.

This took 18 shots and whittled down to the best 6. Used an old program i got with my first pamasonic DMC-FZ5 to join it up.

Nice. I'd have never noticed the power line blemish if you hadn't pointed it out.
Im always in the wrong place when a nice rainbow appears.

Water shots from Sunday. This is where the open water was pushing up thru the edge of the ice. I like the silky look of the first shot.

Was wondering what in tarnation is "Tarn". Found this:

Tarns are lakes that form in glacially-carved cirques. They are often dammed by moraines. .

Okay. Is your tent THe orangish thing that can see in pic ???
