Kind of in the middle of it. We're sort of used to it though, don't know anybody that got ate yet.

Black bears here in the bush give spice and a special alertness that makes one feel alive. Grizzlies scare the sh!t out of me.
      Good luck.

Some years we see quite a few black bears but actually rarely see grizzlies. The grizzlies pretty much bugger off if they know anyone is in the area. Fall is probably the only time you really have to be concerned about them as they're trying to fatten up for the winter. The main thing, depending on where we're going, is to hike in small groups. We usually hike with other couples and the women chatter enough to keep most wildlife away. LOL. I like black bears, I find them generally curious and comical creatures in their behavour but also don't ever trust them. A grizzly will probably leave you well alone but a black bear will actually stalk you if you're alone. Like any wildlife they need space, respect and unless surprised will let you know if you should be the one leaving.

Sounds like sound advice and good practice.

A random pic with a phone through the two panes of glass. This guy smelled something tasty on the 6' high birdfeeder, walked around it looking up, obviously thinking. Stood up on his hind legs with front paws on a feeder leg. Nope. Hopped up on the block but decided the angle wasn't good for leaping. Tried climbing the birch tree at the rear right and fell off backwards half way up. Then tried the clump of saplings at the rear left corner and struggled up enough to get his front paws over the edge. All for a single leftover buttermilk pancake. The Gray Jays were not impressed. Good cabin entertainment.

Sandy, that is one giant fossil. Very interesting. Regarding wildlife, I mainly have to look out for skunks and the occasional drunk in town. The Fox on the feeder is cool. I didn't know that they climbed.

Friday morning before sunrize I was out on the pier, setting up tripod, seeing the start of colorfull sunsrize, and looking back to shore, expecting sunrize color on the water.
Had a city cop walkout there hollering at me that I could not be there and had to leave now.
So I gathered up my tripod and walked off behind him.
He was closing the gates and I took this selfie pic, as he was ordering me to move because I was in his way of closing the gate (I thought I purposely stood where was outside the gate and not in the way).

I went elsewhere and got this picture (looking away from sunrize)

CAn see are waves splashing up onto the lower part of the pier further out. I was about 1/3rd the way out, on the part closer in that is higher, mostly dry.
