I went downtown a couple of nights ago to practice this look but the art museum isn't as high as I thought when looking at the interstate. I still like the colors I got and the reflections in the river though

Went for short ride. Saw color in sky and headed to beach. I Was a bit late getting there. Most color was gone when I got there, sun having to go thru more clouds/overcast as the sunn got lower. Just faded away before got to horizon.

Proceeded with my idea of not trying to avoid the people there, but include them as part of the scene.

And things better now that I have had some introduction to WhiteBalance (that WB button on camera back, duhhhh)

Glen even with a little pilot error i love the second Belmar moonlight shot. Scott's pano shot of the art museum is great as is Dave's the low angle shot of the lighthouse. Very well done guys.

This morning. Not sure if I love it or not. I like the composition, not necessarily the execution.

I like the composition too. Execution seems good.
TO get it any better, might have to be one of those guys that carrys reflectors and diffusers and such (to get light into area where the moss is). Or maybe a different time of day might be different.

What I also find impressive is just that you saw that, and recognized it could be a good image.

Interesting that you noticed that. Yah, from lower perspective to minimize the sand beach foreground and get some of the reflection in the wet sand, so hadto get the shot after a wave came in and went back out. (but wasnt good for that then, something about being by the pier, seem to get waves from a couple directions)

Went for late afternoon ride, and went down by beach again. More of an actaull sunset tonight.

With same situation of lots of folks around to see sunset.

THen about 30 seconds after the last of the sun drops below the horizon, most of the folks turn and head back to parking lot or boardwalk to downtown.

THe photographers that stay just turn up the ISO a bit and wait and see what happens.

THen wait longer for the catwalk light to come on.
Then wait longer for the beacon lights to start flashing.
THe two lights flash at different duration and period, but if try, can catch both on at same time.

                            Okay, enough of that.

Funny you say that. I used my phone light to light up the green plants in the dark area on later shots, but the golden light of the sunrise had already left so the lighting on the stump had become harsh.

Scott, nice work on the action shots. I goofed around with the camera once at a baseball game. Not an easy task to follow the action, especially when zoomed in.

Dave, I love your pier images and the progression of dark. I've observed the same as you regarding the masses leaving right after sunrise or sunset. I love the shot with the lights on. Transition is one of my favorite, and sometimes, most troublesome subjects to photograph.
By transition I'm talking about light meets dark, light fading into shadow, day meets night, etc. Those times when a mere minute or two can completely make or undo an image. Time passes very quickly in those moments.
