That same weekend I went on a roughly 150 mile memorial ride for a member of my riding group, Mikey. Mikey tragically passed away on a group ride the prior weekend after lowsiding and colliding with a guard rail. He left behind a 9 year old daughter and a pregnant wife. Very sad. 
RIP Mikey.
Once I arrived home from the memorial ride, I realized that something was wrong with the rear sprocket carrier of the bike. One of the sprocket carrier studs had backed out, taking the nut on the stud for a ride through the swingarm. Milled maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of the wall thickness out of the swingarm. I'm super lucky this didn't lock up the rear wheel when this happened.
Rather being safe than sorry, I replaced the sprocket carrier and swingarm. Also applied green penetrating thread locker to the sprocket carrier studs to prevent the backout situation from reoccurring.
Back in business, last weekend I went for a ride with my friend Brandon who has a nice stock '79 GS1000E.
