    82 GS1100G Project

So people have enquired... afraid I'm not very good with photo's on the build

Thanks to Nessism for help rebuilding the engine. All new gaskets, new rings, stem seals.

I got this from Joe Garfield. Some of you would have seen it (in pieces) before in a couple of parking lots at Midwest rallies.... The carbs were rebuilt by Steve (I'm hoping they are still clean enough that I can just blow them through, I know the O rings etc are ok. Joe was messing with float levels so I better check those too).
I fitted new carb boots - the ones on it were "serviceable" but I'm fussy about that sort of thing... (Let me know if anyone wants a set, I also have a serviceable set off a Skunk too).

Good bones (Series RR, Progressive springs, Hagon Shocks) but a bunch of surface rust from living near the beach for a year plus the head was off for new rings & stem seals etc.

I took it back to a bare frame: (Yes the triples did come off eventually too.. Skunk was getting new coils & a relay mod in this pic...)

Engine going back together at Nessism's place (I think we altered the strap arrangement after this for final fit, hanging it with bungey cords was a great help to getting it together).

The engine returning home... Minivans can be great. Note 2x4 engine stand that was used during the build using some old engine mounts I had to hand.

How it sits today... (Carbs, Airbox - got new boots for that too, bit of wiring plus signals & grips to go then onto the bodywork)

So that's what happened to that bike. I'm glad it's found a good home.

Threw on a set of heated grips through a relay (remembered from years back that the LO/HI on Symtecs instructions is reversed so I have it backwards again!)

the carbs are cleaned, bench synced and fitted along with all the cables and clutch cable.

            Jobs left to do...

            finish painting and mount horns
            finish painting and mount mirrors
mount and plug in Turn Signals

            clean up seat grab rail.

            Bodywork - paint and mount....

no no new pics because all the work done is basically invisible!

Haha aside from some of the junk on the floor moving around it'd look the same as the one above... alright maybe the wiring got tidied up too! Got the horns and mirrors painted up over the weekend so they'll go on this week & maybe I'll shoot another picture.

Has anyone reliably cleaned up the plastic chrome stuff on 82 turn signals? They have pockmarks & blue/green fur (corrosion) on them. If not I'm going to throw on a set of black 83 ones that I have in a box...

Ok and so to keep the picture police happy here's a new family toy... (My wife's but I can probably play too).

It's a 2005 R53 Cooper S. The "purest" of the BMW breed (also the smallest & supercharged rather than Turbo). Tiny Boot though & no spare wheel (although I've read a Honda Donut fits - something to investigate! )

Here's the (almost) latest... Since this I've got the headlight fitted & working on the airbox & stripping bodywork now... (and yes I do need a new garage door... )

Thought it about time I added more pics.... One more round of clearcoat & then we are ready for the big "firing up" ceremony. I haven't bothered firing it up as yet as I usually use the stock tank with an additional line on it rather than an aux tank to do the carb balancing. Once the paint is finished I'll get some gas & give it a go. Should be riding it within the next couple of weeks...

Saturday, late afternoon, a guy shows up, with bike in uhaul trailer, with parts in boxes.

Different ones of us help him get it back together.
Some folks though was kinda rude of him to interupt the rally social time with this.
BUt other folks enjoyed working on it.

WOrk on it into the night.
It would not start. I dont recall all what we worked on.

Did get it running, and he took a test ride that night.

Him and I did go for a ride Sunday morning. Just to Williams Bridge and back, just enough so he could go for a ride in the area before loading back up on trialer.
