    K1600 and triumph trophy se

    Anyone with first hand experience with either of these bikes, and could give me opinions of them?

    Planning some long distance runs this spring and summer with the wife, so 2 up comfort with a sport edge is important. I've owned a wing but want something in the true sport touring category. I will be selling my bandit 1250. Even with a corbin saddle and backrest, the wife is not happy, so it's got to go.

        You might not want to leave the Yamaha FJR off your short list of sport tourers. It's a very capable touring motorcycle also. 👍

          A friend has a K1600 and he's crazy in love with it. Ridiculously powerful and turns beautifully for a large bike. I don't have any personal experience but it would be on my short list if in that market. The big twin RT bikes are also reputed to be awesome.

            I'm partial to Triumph's but Sprint's can be had for a nice price with some patience.

              Cycle World used to rave about the K1600. They said the in-line 6 might be the perfect configuration for a motorcycle engine. Completely self-balancing.
              1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

              2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

                I walked by the 1600 in the showroom damned pretty. The k1300 handles extremely well so I assume BMW engineers know how to make the weight work.

                A kbike specific forum misght be a better source though fanboy culture is sometimes hard to filter out

                  I've read other forums, but I respect the opinions of gsresources members so I figured I'd ask here. I was going to look at a trophy locally but sold before I could.

                  I'd like to test drive some but not many in my area.

                    After weighing the pros and cons of each I settled on a 2016 Tophy Se in black. Got a better rate for the newer bike.

                    9800 on the clocks and all accessories included. Newer tires with 1k on them, and maintenance up to date.

                    I was really leaning toward the k1600 but based on maintainence cost and intervals, the size and cost I decided against it. Lots of complaints about stock seat and stock windscreen which the one I looked at had and potential teething issues with the first year bike (I was looking at a 2012), not to mention the laborious task of a 24 valve check.

                        Hey nic, do you have any summer motorcycle vacations planned on your new bike? The more I read and look at your bike the more I like it. I was considering a Triumph before I bought my motorcycle, but the dealer wasn't that supportive in what I wanted. I guess them "Adventure" bikes are what is selling. Don't get me wrong I like the adventure bike, but they're generally to tall for me. Again congratulations on your new scoot.👍

                          First trip is to Austin April 1 with my wife for the MotoGP races. We will be leaving asap in the morning (11ish hour trip) to get there and have an air b&b booked off South Congress in Austin.

                          I wanted something sporty enough I would enjoy it in the twisties yet comfortable over long miles for both of us. Not to mention you can see 50 mpg. Everything I have read is that the Trophy fits the bill. I have a Vstream tall touring windscreen on order that by all accounts reduces wind buffeting and back pressure better than stock, although the stock screen is great.

                          Over the summer I hope to take at least one or two more long trips ( Pacific NW).

                          I thought about an adventure bike, but for pillion comfort this Is the way to go.

                          I've still got the B-king and the 1100ES for my solo rides, but as we all can agree, motorcycling is something to be shared and enjoyed with your loved ones.

                            I liked the fjr1300 but I prefered a slightly more relaxed riding position for distance, and the bars were too narrow in orientation for me. Plus I thought I'd try something a little different so I'll be owning my first non japanese motorcycle.
