    How much noise is normal?

How much mechanical engine noise is normal for these machines? im not used to bikes this old and im a little worried by the amount of noise the valve train makes. Everything is in check, valves are adjusted and the engine runs great, so maybe its just me being a bit paranoid?
here's a link to a video of the engine running, the exhaust is rather loud so its a bit hard to make out the mechanical noise.

I have to say I'm not hearing any noise at all.

    Welcome to the forum.

Please put your bike year and model in your signature. If that's an '83 w/ a factory black paint job on the engine, it's in great shape. If you painted it, its very nice, shiny. Just need to polish up the case covers.

Actually I start to worry a little when I do not hear the valves clacking away. When it is too quiet the clearances have gone too small and the lash needs attention. The best description I have heard is that it should sound a little like a sewing machine.

It's an 81 model, i spent the entire winter rebuilding it completely, and gave the engine a black paintjob then. Im not completely satisfied yet, have a couple of spots that need touching up, and i think im gonna paint the valve cover aswell. And yes i still need to get the aluminium polished up, but the summer just hit us hard a month ago, and i was really itching to get out riding, so i thought i would leave the polishing for later and go enjoy riding a bit

All of our 2-valve per cylinder shim/bucket valvetrain Suzuki GS's sound like a clickety-clacking sewing machine when running and adjusted. If they get too quiet, you know the valves are all way too tight and need smaller shims swapped.

As long as your tickity-ticks don't turn into clackety-clacks, your good to go.
