"For the sake of argument lets say X equals the number of motorcycles that your ability and status in life can keep maintained and running. Besides remorseless economics and mechanical talent there are the bikes that have a sentimental meaning to you that goes beyond reason and harsh reality. We’ll call that value Y. For example, you may never get that Norton put back together but if the fact that it exists in your shed brings you happiness why am I judging"?

    a sub-chuckle from the article...

'83 GS550es (didn't like the colours in the 80's, but they've grown on me)

    So the answer is X + Y.

I say the answer is how many bikes do you want to insure and buy battery for.

Had 850G for 14 years. Now have GK since 2005.
GK at IndyMotoGP Suzuki Display... ... GK on GSResources Page ... ... Euro Trash Ego Machine .. ..3 mo'cykls.

That Norton comment hits close to home. If I total up the ridiculous prices asked on eBay for the handful of things I need, I can complete the bike for about 3 to 5x what it'll be worth. Parting it out is a shame but I must be sitting on a goldmine so it's tempting. Kickstand? $200. Instrument mount? $130. They just sit there and don't sell though, and reasonable offers are rejected.

I'm confused by the thread title. It has the words, "too many motorcycles" in it. I know what each word means, but together, in that order...just seems nonsensical.
