    520 chain and sprocket conversion

Hey, has anyone done a 520 conversion on a GS1000? Part numbers and sources?
    Any info is greatly appreciated!

Hey Nessism, thanks for that and yep 530 conversion is pretty straight forward. Id like a 520 set up because ive got a wider rim and tire, 160. I can make a 530 work but will be tight, prob rub when deep in a corner... So a nice narrow light weight 520 would be ideal... So the question is has anyone found sprockets, preferably 17/50 or 17/52 that work? Maybe from later gsx or kawasaki...

Sprocket Specialists https://sprocketspecialists.com/ in UT provided all the pieces for my conversion. My bike with a 160/60 18 didn't even come close to rubbing the chain even with a 530 O-ring

I run a 180 rear tyre on my gs1000 with a 530 chain and sprockets, 10mm offset on the front sprocket and no problems with chain clearance

Agemax, lets see your bike, is the hub and swing arm original to the bike or did u use a later yr set up? Im running the original swingarm and hub with 5.5x17 Buchanan rim and spokes...

530 is a little smaller but works. Definitely wouldnt go any smaller though. The age old 1 down 2 up for more torque

With the wheels reduced to 17" the torque should increase so the stock sprocket ratio might be close to 1 down two up in teeth.... I was thinking 17/52Triple Bronze..jpg

80GS1000 has a 520 on his GS1000 for tire clearance. I did it on a 750ES running a 170 tire to get room also. Nessism is giving you good advice...

Nice, ya I was hoping to find later model 520 sprockets that would work like you did with the rear wheel... Looks like the only options are to have them made by specialty sprockets, PBI or the likes... Cheers

So you had the 520 sprockets made?

I've done a number of conversions through PBI Sprockets (https://www.shop.pbisprockets.com/main.sc)

They've always given great customer service to me: "I've got a 19XX Suzuki YYYY and am looking for a 520 sprocket with the same spline pattern as the stock 530 sprocket; can you please help me out?" Ditto with the rear sprocket & bolt spacing.

They're in Oregon (where I live) and I usually get the parts a couple days after I order.

Worth giving them a ring! Mike used to be their customer service rep.
