‘82 GS1100 Alternator wiring question

    ‘82 GS1100 Alternator wiring question

    My Clymer diagram shows colored wires (3) coming from the alternator, however, MY alternator has 3 wires that are exactly the same dull blue color. The wires have been cut, and I have no idea which wire goes where. All three appear to be individual windings that are all connected and measure no resistance (ZERO OHMS) when measuring the resistance between each wire. Frankly, I don’t see what it matters where they go, as they are all 3 producing sine waves. Am I right? What am I not understanding?

    Standard forum wisdom is to get a real deal Shindengen SH775 and wire it up eliminating the stator loop. My suggested wiring scheme is shown below. Do NOT buy a generic "replaces SH775" type R/R off ebay, they suck. Get the real thing. There are tons of threads on this subject in older threads here so search if you don't understand what I'm stating.

      actually if you measure between any two of the stator leads, you’ll see about .8 ohms (less than one ohm) on even a cheap multimeter. If this stator is new to you, make sure you test it after installation...used stators often are smoked!

        You are correct.
        Three phases go to three sets of diodes in the rectifier.

            That's a bit low. Ideally should be reaching 14.5V at around 4000rpm and certainly by 5000rpm.

              Agree. If it's wired like shown and you are only getting 13.7 VDC at 5000rpm that means either your battery is weak and/or undercharged, or the stator output is weak.
