How about starting another thread about Steve? This thread is about carbs for keso's bike. I'm not trying to be harsh, but Scott has been in contact with Steve and he didn't allude to health issues or similar with him.

Started working though your contribution Tom and the carbs are in nice shape. Thanks so much.
The replacement #1 is somewhat different, but hoping it won't matter too much. For example, the slide spring is different. The 650 slide springs are smaller diameter. I'll take inventory of the mains, jet needle, and needle jet once the parts are cleaned up. It's hard to read the numbers though the grunge.

One part I need is a pilot screw. Don't think I have one in my spares. On the hunt...

        EDIT: found a pilot screw.

Noticed that the oddball #1 has a needle that's more tapered at the tip. I figure that's for a larger bike, where more fuel will be needed. A 750 or 850 maybe. Time to sort through the spares box in search of something that will match a little better...

Carbs are all cleaned up and ready to go back together. There is a lot of corrosion on the bodies so they look dingy, but inside all the passages are clean and the slides look good. One possible concern is the fuel Tee. It's the rubber coated type and it's shrunk. It's soaking in gasoline in the hope that it will swell up and seal. Pretty sure it will.

If the fuel tee leaks...and you have a junk one laying around... remove the rubber off a junk one and load it with orings that fit the now bare tee and into the carb bodies. I do know that the 6.8x1.9 MM orings work on VM carbs, Havent had the opportunity to figure out the CVs yet. If you figure it out please post up tge results...thanks.

I dont think the holes in the bodies are the same as the VM carbs. For some reason i think they are smaller than VMs.

The fuel tee swelled up nicely after soaking in gasoline for a couple of days. No leaks.

As long as the rubber sees somewhat regular gasoline exposure the Tee will be fine.

An interesting tidbit for those interested...

The float heights were quite low compared to the factory spec when the carbs arrived. After rebuilding, I tweaked the floats to get them up to spec. Normally, as born out over rebuilding dozens of sets of carbs, the fuel level is HIGH, even if the floats are in spec, but with these carbs the fuel level was LOW. I had to go back inside and tweak all the float heights to a level that would be considered under spec. Mind you, the float heights doesn't matter, what does is the fuel level in the carbs. At the end of the day the fuel level was set to the low end of the spec. That way as the parts wear together over time the fuel level can come up and still remain within a good usable range.

Well, my leakers have been leak free since I put my GS1000 back into service 19 years ago. Feel like I should maybe by a lottery ticket. LOL.
