    GS450 Engine Noise

Just got my GS450 running forvthe first time
It has this very noise as per the attached video.
Anyone have any ideas what it could be?
    Not my video btw.

About the only thing I can think of is "Cam Slap" assuming that the valve shims are all within spec.

Cam walk. Does it go away above idle?

Right, looks like I botched that term.

My 550 does a similar noise. Maybe not as loud but its the same ticking which comes and goes ever 1-2 seconds. I think its a "normal" feature of these motors.

My 450 was starting to do that before I traded it for another bike, it would last about a minute or two then go away. It's a matter of wear and things tightening up after the metal warms up. Even going a minute or two with the noise I'd still ride it anywhere, from what I've read it isn't too daunting a task to correct it. I've not actually done the work and will leave that part to someone else but as mentioned, if it's only a minute or two you're safe for the time being.

Yes, Sounds like cam walk. You can be sure of it if your bike has the plastic seals at cam ends- turn them around (flange side "inward") next time you have the camcover off. It'll stop. This is a temporary fix but at least you'll know.

Actually, in the noisier instances it doesn't go away. You just can't hear it easily at higher rpm.
