Forgot to mention the Gen1 Bandit front wheel has provisions for speedo drive. All Bandit parts including cable work.... I had a G2 Bandit, the GS rides much the same. More comfortable ergos.

so picked up my bandit donor bike today. It’s a 96 I believe. I’m assuming similar year rf900 lower clamp and stem? Luckily there seems to be a lot on eBay for cheap so that nice to know. I’m also wonder if the stock bandit 4-1 will bolt on the gs1100 engine? I remember reading it does or needs light header flange modding to work. thanks for the help!

Rather than clip-ons you can sometimes drill the top plate & put some re-inforcing plates (big washers) underneath to fit something like these:

When I fitted a GSXR front end it was a straight bolt on but gauge & steerer stops were wildly different. I bolted new stops to the lower triple. For the rear I used a 5.5" but a 4.5" is much easier. I used a GS500 sprocket carrier from memory as it was narrower.

I'd love to do the Bandit swap too for an 83 1100E. So what years exactly? First gen Bandit right? Does it matter if its from a 750 or 1200? And then what year RF900 triple tree?

Bandit 1200 1996-2000 RF900 Triple all years IIRC. Use the Bandit wheels so the speedo works. You need a Gen 1 Bandit speedo cable. It's cool to see all this work getting done and I don't have to lift a finger....

Good info! I’ve been scanning the marketplace for a whole Bandit 1200 for cheap. While I did find some, they are farther out than I’m willing to drive.

Found this website for the conversion parts. That makes things easy. I have a guy than weld aluminum. Will need to make Custom brackets for the gauge cluster but mostly plug and play.

I went with the 89/90 GSXr1100 forks & triples on my 83. Stem is exactly the same, but I had new clamps & steering stops welded on. My bike sits just slightly lower in the front than before the swap. It's a small, but noticeable difference

Did you have to make a adapter for the bandit top clamp to work the rf900 lower clamp and stem? I’m reading that people need to make some little piece for it to work. measuring the rf900 stem compared to stock GS it seems like like the rf is like 1/2” too short. looks like the lock ring will barely catch a thread or two on the rf stem when in the gs frame.

That is Rob Wilton. He is a member here. He was having some serious health issues a while back, I don't know if he is well and making parts again.

I will see if I have any pictures. I did use a hardware store bronze bushing to fill the gap between the stem and the Bandit top tree but I don't recall anything else.

I have been reading about front end conversion for last few hours. This is the set I am looking for: upside down fork and classic handlebar. Does anyone have an idea what the forks and tripple clamps come off? Is it gsxr1100k and drilles/custom top clamp?
