    Best foam for seat

    I need to refoam and recover my 78 1000 seat
    I got a Pit Replica seat cover
    So, who has had good success with a foam product?
    I'm heavy, about 265 and my wife's about 175
    1978 GS 1000 (since new)
    1979 GS 1000 (The Fridge, superbike replica project)
    1978 GS 1000 (parts)
    1981 GS 850 (anyone want a project?)
    1981 GPZ 550 (backroad screamer)
    1970 450 Mk IIID (THUMP!)
    2007 DRz 400S
    1999 ATK 490ES
    1994 DR 350SES

    Where I work we make aircraft cockpit seats. A lot of the cushions are made from laminated foam of various densities. I can ask our seat engineer for a recommendation if you don't find good info in the mean time.

      I have had a place in Fl. called Sargents make me one of their seats before and they told me most OEM manufacturers use 'open cell foam'.They used 'closed cell foam' on my seat to rebuild the old foam with in sections before they put their own seatcover on it.The seat felt much more resilient with it.That was on an 86' VFR750F1 and the seat was fairly thin compared to many of our vintage Suzuki 'couches'.That Sargent company used the stock seat foam and just added pieces of their brand of closed-cell foam to it in key places.I asked them if they would form a complete new,fresh piece of foam shaped just like my original using only closed-cell foam and they told me it would be too stiff/resilient compared to the softness of my original OEM seat foam.
      There's another place called Saddlemen which sells 'seat kits' with their special closed-cell foam which is called 'Black Magic' and it's a similar thing where I installed pieces in key areas into the existing factory foam where I felt I needed it the most,then recovered over that.
      I have purchased used seats on Ebay before and the foam was in better condition than the stuff that was in mine,so I used that.

        Yeah, my seat foam is as hard as a rock now.There got to be better foam now days

            Foam ... what a world of wonderment.
            You could pay through the nose for upholstery foam and its magical properties, only to be let down by its magical properties of collapsing as it approaches 400 miles.
            Or you could put your trust in the Gods of Touring and pay through the Sphinchter to the likes of Saddlemen or Russel Day-Long for their black magic solutions of 5 or 600 miles of Pure Comfort, but it's unlikely anyone nowadays will actually reach that level of achievment.
            Or... you might decide to roll the dice and put a few layers of exercise mat topped by a few layers of medium closed cell upholstery foam and cheap out.
            The choice is yours.
            FWIW, the last one worked for me.
            But that's not to say I tried it over 400 miles in a day.
            Honestly, the most I got in a single day was factory BMW foam on an RT80 (1979) when I did 1000 miles +.
