    Carburetor hose clamps

My 82 GS1100E has been running great for the last year since I got it together. Yesterday it started running like it had an air leak. I found it was leaking around 2 of the Carb. boots. The clamps can not be tightened any more. I was getting ready to buy new clamps but I thought I would ask If there is a better option for clamps than the factory ones? If so please let me know.
    Thanks

Reached end of travel? Or heads stripped.
The intakes may just be shrunken with age. Or the screw stretched.

    The look a perfect circle
Never used them but note how the design like oem clamps equally about the circumference.
    Cheap and stainles.

Worm gear types leave a gap and would be a bad choice for carb boots.

Yes they have reached the end of travel. I checked the ones on Amazon they would work if not 3/4" wide. the indent in the boot is only a little over a 1/4" wide
      Thanks

The clamps stretch if over tightened. I like the OEM clamps because they are thin and fit into a matching groove on the boot.

I would also suspect the o-rings (in the boot, up against the head).

The 1100E head has spigots cast in and the boots are like a piece of rubber hose type material. No O-rings to leak.

You could affix a thickish strip of felt as a spacer.

Agreed. Listen to ED, and just get OEM. But I think you need boots, also, unless you already replaced them.

Good idea. Maybe some metal shims instead of compressible fabric? Don't go slicing open you hand cutting beer can shims though. That stuff is like a razor blade.

Just a thought.....if the intake pipes are old and hardened, clamps will not necessarily fix the 'problem. For less than a hundred dollars new manifold pipes and new OEM clamps will sort out those pesky leaks.

https://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/a/.../cylinder-head (Just an Example re parts purchase)

I purchased my 83 GS 1100E new. Have had carbs off maybe 6 times. Replaced intake pipes twice. Air box to carb boots once. Clamps.....originals still and all is well.

I've used a few slices of old inner tube under those clamps. It stretches around intake pipes and won't compress like other materials. Barely noticeable too

Edit: bicycle inner tube that is...
