    I'm sorry Rich but what are you referring to? My post about checking VAC to ground? If the insulation is good you wouldn't be completing the circuit. Right? I haven't been around motors for a number of years and I'm not as young as I used to be. But I am faster!

    P.S. Never mind. I reread your post. But still, isn't that correct? I previously read about your charging ordeal and read it again. I saw several posts confirming reading VAC to ground but nothing about anything different.

      It’s my understanding, from what I’ve been told, quite possibly wrong, that with the bike running, measuring VAC of any stator leg to ground should show zero, or nearly zero, voltage. That the OP is getting a sizable reading, as I did, was what helped determine that the stator was bad, even when it passed the smell test and looking for discoloration or breaks in the insulation covering the stator windings. Again, not an expert, not looking for an argument, always willing to learn. These things have to be dumbed down so us mere mortals can understand them.

        Check the AC voltage leg to leg, and then check resistance leg to ground. Always did it that way.

          I think you are right Rich. I thought you were responding to me but you weren't.

          You can check resistance to ground and get 0 ohms. It won't test insulation breakdown because the voltage in your voltmeter isn't high enough.
