The seller lives in Hornell, and our hotel is in Bath.
So the southwest corner of the region.

            Nice!
Look at that excited happy face!

Looks like nice standard styling and riding position.

Lot of folks like that 3 cylinder engine.

10:1 compression, the spec says. Regular gas (not premium)?

Hey, Kerry, tell us how this came about. You looking specifically for that model?

Nice score Padre. If your coming down thru PA on Rt 15 thru Williamsport, Lewisburg, etc, and want to meet for lunch, let me know, I can try to get out of the office for a bit. I’m about 10 miles west from Lewisburg.

Mighta been three years ago or so I happened to see a mid90s Triumph Thunderbird 900 and I just really liked the look and the everything. After a decade with early 80s GSs and some of their foibles (combined with my lack of mechanical skill) I was wanting something a little newer, something maybe not air-cooled, but also not V-twin. There was a guy about fifty miles from me had a Thunderbird for sale for $2,000. I contacted him, asked why he was selling, and he said he wanted to do some home renovations and needed the cash. I offered him $1K plus my 83 650GL, and he never responded.

Anyway, every few months since then I would do a 500-mile radius search for the Thunderbird, but only found them in the $4K range, if I found them at all.

Then a couple weeks ago I happened on this listing. $2200, and nice condition, and 88xx miles. I mentioned it to my wife and she said "Go ahead, yeah!" so I made the arrangements.

The seller had six or so bikes in his garage, plus a 67 GTO and a 64 Falcon in the driveway. He was retired and liked to fiddle, so that's what he does.
He threw in some saddlebags, plus an extra sprocket, and the 200-page service manual as well.

My 83 650GL, by the way, has a few issues, and I've fallen out of love with it.

That would be cool, but the Interstate towards Cleveland and then south is the quickest and easiest route.

Well, if you’re ever in the area, give me a holler. I’ve been chasing a newer Triumph myself, but not ready to buy just yet.

Is that the same motor as in my '99 Trophy 900? Carburetors?

I think the 99 Trophy 900 has a zippier motor, but I don't quite know how to compare the models exactly.
