    RIP Coach John Madden

I watched his 1960-1970 Oakland Raiders when the NFL was a lot tougher league. Some of the slugfests between the Raiders and Chiefs in those years didn't have penalties, they had assaults! He was a great broadcaster and analysist after he retired from coaching. Another voice from the soundtrack of my life gone. He passed at 85 years old today.

Life is a balancing act, enjoy every day, "later" will come sooner than you think. Denying yourself joy now betting you will have health and money to enjoy life later is a bad bet.

I was just notified on my phone about his passing.

My love of him and Pat Summerall announcing games on CBS was astounding!

Wife reminded me, I have VHS tapes of games with Dallas vs SF (when we lived in Abilene, TX 93-99). Pat Summerall was a BIG TIME Cowboys fan that always made snide comments about Jerry Rice being slow but no one could ever catch him.

But I have fond memories even when I first was introduced to the NFL in the mid 70s.

Like Vin Scully...the voices will live long in my memory.

Here is a nice piece about Madden and his kindness towards others...
