$22K just for a battery? I'd rather blow it up

So....that is just what he did with his Tesla

The car was not covered by a warranty but still required permission from Tesla to repair — so Tuomas Katainen decided to do something different.

To be fair replacing the engine and entire drive train on any 2013 luxury car wouldn't be cheap either, plus Finland has 24% VAT( Value Added Tax). As for scrapping a 2013 ICE car that would be common as well if the you needed an entire drive train, the value of the car would've dropped so much it wouldn't be worthwhile, just apply the expenses to a new vehicle.

I've had a couple of vehicles I'd happily have done that to.

Back when I was in high school some students did something like that to a teacher's car in the school parking lot.

It did not blow up, but the stuff they used created a lot of smoke as it burnt through the hood and then everything else underneath.
Even the engine block was destroyed.
