I looked at AARP Plans with Consumer Cellular...

    1G - $19/mo
    3G - $23.75/mo
    7G - $33.25/mo
    10G - $38.00/mo
    15G - $42.75/mo
    Unlimited - $52.25/mo

Compared to MintMobile that charges $30/month/35GB of 5G - 4G LTE Data (X2=$60/month) for Unlimited, the better option is MintMobile.

As for the RustyBronco recommendations...I'll have to compare those to the type of usage we have in 2-3 years.

EDIT: T-Mobile Magenta (5G/Text & Data) 55+ charges $35/month (X2=$70/month) for Unlimited, $10 more than MintMobile currently charges.
    EDIT: T-Mobile Essentials (3G/Text) 55+ charges $27.50/month (X2=$55/month) for Unlimited, $5 less than MintMobile.

Ed, keep in mind T-mo offers roaming where as Mint does not. (I hope that still is true.)

Dan, RP is a low cost provider. Almost the the point of DIY customer service. As such I'm certain it won't work overseas. What you can do is buy a local data sim while there and get a local number or possibly use google voice?

Data only sim plus Google voice? Bonus!

        Roaming?

Are you talking US roaming or out of country roaming?

Son-in-law says his friend got the plan in Utah (with Utah area code) and moved back to Delaware...he has had no issues with coverage using Utah phone in Delaware.

          Domestic roaming. i.e. on AT&T.

Learn how T-Mobile works with other networks in locations in the U.S. where T-Mobile does not yet have network coverage.

          To the second point.

Use your phone like you do in the US, get unlimited talk, text and data when in Canada and Mexico!

I've been asking my wife and SIL about domestic roaming and they couldn't give me an answer. So, I called MintMobile. (Wife suggested it)

First, here is a google search statement from May 18, 2021

1The other disadvantage to Mint is it currently does not support domestic roaming. Domestic roaming is when your phone switches to a partner network in an area without coverage. ... Mint doesn't have this kind of agreement, so if you travel frequently you may consider a carrier with domestic roaming

What the agent said after I read the above statement, was..."that is correct."

What you do in those instances is turn on your Wifi and make a call to avoid any charges. (If no Wifi, then you can still use the phone, it will cost text $0.05/SMS & Data Roaming $0.20MB)

Wife made a good point...we're not going to be traveling any time soon so this will be OK for the next 6 months.

I can provide insight on our experience if anyone is interested in MintMobile.

Wife also said, if we don't like it, we can go back to Verizon. (I'd rather not but I wasn't going to debate that with her...lol!)

Why would you want to use MintMobile when Red Pocket is noticeably cheaper?

And if you are happy with Verizon, you can use the Verizon network while using Red Pocket (and save a ton of money.)

                It’s actually, my family’s choice.

I’m for the best deal…don’t get me wrong.

I’m cool with the education you guys are providing.

                We’re trying this out as a family…so, that’s why it’s happening.

Again, I take the recommendations as food for thought if we aren’t happy with it.

I tried Mint. It worked well for my needs. When the trial period was over I flipped to RP's $30 360 day plan. (Spare phone.)

Tello has some 6 Month plan deals going on right now. 25% off for new customers.

Build your own plan with minutes, texts and data starting at only $5/month. No contract, no hidden fees! You can also buy a new phone from Tello or bring your own mobile. It's all up to you.

(Yes I have a plan with them.)

US Mobile's pay as you go phone plans come with custom and/or unlimited data, talk & text options, starting from $4/month. These prepaid plans are perfect for any user.

On other plans, taxes & fees include a $2 Service Fee levied by our carrier partners to access their network and Regulatory Cost Recovery charges that typically range from $1-$5 per line. You can read more about it on

This weekend, our family migrated from Verizon to Mint Mobile. Bye, bye Verizon!

Son-in-law helped my wife and I with the transfer as he had already done our daughter's phone. (All of us were on Verizon)

We signed up on Jan 7, 2022 and received our starter kit around the 16th.

                        We're paid for the next 6 months! ($30/unlimited X 2 = 180$ + fees $25 + 3 months free)

Our trial has started...we shall test out coverage and consider Red Pocket during this time.

                          Update:

So far I've learned to enable the "WiFi Calling & Texting" feature.

When I had Verizon, my connectivity at work (since there are routers all over the hospital) was automatic (at least if there was an enable, I don't remember turning it on).

As I went to put my AirPods on, I noticed my Spotify was not playing as well. So I went to my WiFi settings and enabled/logged into the hospital free internet. This resolved my connectivity issues but even though I'm auto enabled, I still have to sign into the hospital internet M-F while at work.

Small price to pay (signing into the hospital internet) but simply only a minor nuisance...we are paid thru Jul so what I would have been spending for Verizon for two fully-paid iPhones ($187 X 7/mos = $1,309) is a welcome exchange.

I just bought my lad a plan for a year, unlimited with 1GB $109 for the year. Note that Iphone 6 does not support Vo LTE on At&T but allegedly does on T mobile. I'm about to find that out as they say they can swap plan onto a T mobile Sim. AT&T requires the 6S.

Dan, Google Fi offers seamless roaming in over 200 countries and includes tethering. It's riding on T-Mobile.

I've been much happier with Fi than AT&T, even though I haven't been to another country for a long time.
