Carb OEM specs as per factory manuals

    Heys guys this is working out real good, but do me a favor;

I don't mind you guys linking pictures but am a little concerned when the link goes down say a year from now then the info is lost again, so please type in the info so we have if forever. You can just copy and paste one of the lists below and just fill it out with your info.

I propose that we start a carb spec page maybe a link off the carb clean up page. we can follow this layout

GS550L (77-79) the specs are for the VM's

    idle r/min 1100-1200
    carb mik vm22ss
    id no 47110
    bore size 22 (0.87)
    float height 24.+/-1.0 (0.95 +/-0.04)
    fuel level 4.0+/-1.0 (0.16 +/-0.04)
    air screw 2.0 turns back
    cut away 1.5
    jet needle 5dl35-3 (the -3 3rd notch??)
    pilot screw 1.0
    pilot jet #15
    pilot outlet 0.6
    needle jet 0-6
    by pass 1.0
    main jet #80

GS550 (80-82) the specs are for the CV's

    idle r/min 1100-+/-100r/min
carb mik bs32ss (4 seprate carbs)
id no 47160 (us) 47170 (can)
    bore size 32 (1.26)
    float height 22.4.+/-1.0 (0.88 +/-0.04)
    fuel level 5.0+/-0.5 (0.20 +/-0.04)
    main jet #92.5
    main air jet 1.6
jet needle (4bel2 us model) (5f42-3rd notch canadian adjusable needle)
    needle jet x-6
    pilot jet #40
    throttle valve #135
    by pass (0.9, 0.7, 0.7 us model) (1.0,0.8,0.8 canadian)
    pilot outlet 0.7
    valve seat 2.0
    starter jet #35
pilot screw 3.5 turns back (mixture screw)
pilot air jet (us model #150) (#120 canadian)

these setting apply to all 550 models with the CV style carbs,
Me personaly would try to get the carbs as close to the the canadian specs as possable the US models were lean out so much to meet emissions. the candian specs give the bike a hardier fuel supply.
if we all work together we should get really close to specing out all the diffrent size bike carbs, i think i can also supply the gs1000 cv carbs specs i need to check. But we should at least come up with specs for the 1100's (...joe), and maybe some folks have the specs for the gs 750/700, and some for the 400/450 and the 850 (nick diaz??) the 1150 (earl??)

It's a great idea, and then we could make it a PDF or something to be downloaded by members.

    I like this idea.

        First Timer,

It so happens that I've just completely cleaned and rebuilt the CV carbs on my 1981 GS550L. I only checked one air screw before I removed it (as the others were stuck and just getting them out was enough of a job) and it was 1 1/2 turns out. Is this information you present for the air screw for my carbs correct?

I also need help in syncing the carbs and adjusting the air screws. Should I adjust the sync first or the air screws? I what order of carbs should I adjust the sync and the air screws? Do I adjust the air screw for the highest idle?

        Thanks for the help.
        Kelly

That's a good idea. Instead of PDF'ing it though I would store the info in the database here in a similar fashion of what we do with the Owner's Registry and Gallery date. That way we have a bit of control over the information being presented (in case it's bogus). Besides, I don't think many prople would be interested in seeing information for many bikes, just the bike that they own.

This sounds like another project on the list doesn't it?

i am just re awakeing this thread, lets all contribute to it.

i can also post the specs for the gs1000 with vm's and for cv's. and the settings i have discovered for gs1000 and maybe a 750 running 29mm smoothies.

              Yeah, lets do it..

However we will need a central repository for the information and set up a standard for input.

Best bet for this would be to set up a form for submital through a web page.
That way all the information will be in the same format, and a quick import can be done to import it into the database.

If I was more of a web programmer, I could set it up. (I still may be able to given enough time)

              Let me know.

I had (lost it now) been working on a form that could be used for submitting the data. I have the information for my 650 and I think the 550 (somewhere) though First Timer already posted it I believe.
