    GS1100 530 conversion

Hello gs family, can I use a factory 530 front sprocket on a 83 1100e?

    #2
Your bike uses 15 front and 42 rear sprockets, and a 96 link chain in 630 size.

    42/15 = 2.8 ratio

    For 530 you need 15 + 3 = 18 teeth front sprocket
It's important to use 3 more teeth with 530 in order to maintain the same sprocket diameter as the 15T 630 sprocket

    18 x 2.8 = 50.4 (use a 50 tooth rear sprocket)

    96 links x 6/8 (space between links) = 72 inch long

    72 / 5/8 (spacing between links in 530 chain) = 115.2 (move up to 116 link 530 chain)

Z1 Enterprises sells sprocket of these sizes with the proper bolt/spline pattern to fit your bike. That's the easy path.

Good advice, you will also need the spacer for the drive sprocket because the 530 is thinner than the 630. Z1 sells them. I did this conversion a couple years ago.

530 chains are the same width as 630 chains. The 3 in the spec indicates 3/8 width. 630 chains have longer links; the 6 means pitch length of 6/8" vs. 5/8" length for 530.

Yes , but the 530 drive sprocket is much thinner than the stock 630 sprocket. That is why the spacer is required. The 630 has a boss or something like that. don't exactly remember but it is thicker at the spline bore. No matter, I recommend the 530 upgrade.

You can either buy a conversion sprocket that has a lump in the middle where the splines are or buy the spacer ring to use with (cheaper) flat sprockets, Z1 sells those too. The spacer ring goes on the outside under the lock washer. A lot of people get that wrong and put it on the inside ruining the chain line...
