    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok so I road my bike on a warm day a couple weeks ago. Parked it where I always do. It got cold and snowed alittle then warmed up then snowed alittle kinda cold and stuff but no major amount of snow ever sat on my bike at all. light dustings did :/

Anyways I went out tonight to start it and it wouldnt start probably something to do with the cold I assume but when I went to give it my last shot I pulled the clutch in and pushed the starter and nothing :-k no starter winding or trying to start nothing. All lights still on and such. did I just destroy my starter trying to start it?

I actually have someone interested in trading a truck for the bike and so I really hope I go out tomorrow afternoon when its hopefully warmer and it starts right up. knowing my luck wont be the case.

Any ideas or know whats going on let me know.
 
Hook jumper cables up to your vehicle with it off...

Battery is probably dead

thats what I thought BUT it wasnt winding down sounding like it was drained or getting low it just stopped all of a sudden. or these gs's do that? my old 440's you could hear it starting to crank slower the "deader" the battery got.
 
Mine just stops, then again my battery blows. You did mention snow... which is cold... and batteries + cold = you know..

You won't know til you try it.

thats true I hope its just that, um so jumping a small tiny bike battery...im not going to lie ive never had too either the battery was fine or it was completely needing replaced can I just hook a car battery up to it? Im wanting to say thats a bad idea but maybe not?
 
If the car is off you're fine. Just don't kill your starter since its going to crank faster.

I have to do it when it gets cold just because my battery can't sustain cranking for a long period of time.

ooooo actually no It didnt cross my mind ill have to do that, not tonight as im already all the way in the house and in bed but I didnt think of that for some reason I kinda thought there was a super obvious thing to check but honestly couldnt figure out what it was and fuses was it.
 
I may be wrong cowboy but theres only two fuses that would prevent start up. Main which obviously nothing would work and ignition none of his lights would work on the gauges? He didn't state those were out, and if I remember correctly theres no bypass from ignition to any of these.

nope my guages light up and I didnt have the headlight on or check it to work but ya all the gauge lights worked fine.
 
It could just be some moisture in the starter switch or in a connection somewhere up under the headlight. Definitely try jumping it first, then go from there.
 
When my ignition fuse blew a few months ago, all of my lights still worked just fine. They are on two separate fuses so it's still a good idea to check it. I have become a firm believer of Nessism's saying - to measure is to know.
 
Does this bike still have a clutch safety switch ?- maybe this switch froze up and is not letting starter go. Jump solenoid and see if starter engages.
 
Well I tried to start it today and it tries to start but wont as its like 19 degrees outside. I guess the battery died enough to where it wouldnt try and kick over. Anyways any ideas to get it started the battery is already low on power I though about cover it with tarps sticking some heaters under the tarps and letting it **** for a hour or show in its own personal suana
 
Did you jump it yet. Continuing trying to start it with that low of a battery without aid is going to kill it. More than likely you're going to need a new battery now.
 
You know if your points have some moisture/water on them the bike will turn over but not fire up. I've had to pull my cover off before and hit them with a hair drying while opening them up to solve it. Not sure if your bike still has points or if it has been upgraded to electronic.
 
To dry out your points RIGHT NOW, simply spray some WD-40 on them. :D

Dispersing Water is what the WD stands for. May as well use the stuff for what it's intended. :p
