Instrument lamps for old GSes
I need some replacement bulbs for the instrument pods on my 1978 GS 750, and I can't seem top find a match. These are small bayonet-base bulbs for the neutral indicator, turn signal indicators, and the oil pressure light. There are also some used as instrument illumination. The bulbs are 12Vdc and 3.4W. Anyone have a replacement they can recommend?1979 GS 1000Tags: None -

Mr. jknappsax,
A quick look at bikebandit.com shows #20 is available there for about 62 cents apiece.

Thank you for your indulgence,

I have not looked in there recently, does a #194 bulb not work?

A little more info
If I'm reading Flatout's parts fiche correctly, I think the Suzuki part# is 09471-12001.
The only distinguishing mark on the bulb itself says "NSN 12V3.4W".
I'll shut up now.
Thank you for your indulgence,

OK, if it's the same base as the 194, but you need a smaller globe, try a #53. I don't know exactly what the wattage is, but I use one in my test light, and it's about as bright as a 194.

The 194 has a wedge base and works great in the later models. It's a wee tad bit brighter than the original, which I think was a #53 or something like that as mentioned earlier.
However, that doesn't help the OP, since the earlier models used bulbs with metal bayonet type bases. (Like tiny little brake light bulbs.) I've never been able to find these in an auto parts store, so you may need to order them from Suzuki or see if there's an old-timey shop in your neighborhood that might have them.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

53 is only 1.9W
I spent some time at Pep Boys yesterday, and the ones that would fit are too low wattage, and the ones that are the correct wattage have a glass envelope that is too large. But if Bikebandit has the originals, that seems to be the path of least resistance (no pun intended!). If I can't get them there, I may take you up on your offer, Chef. Thanks.1979 GS 1000Comment

The people at www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm have all that bulbs you need, also some Harley bulbs fit there and with the same power.Comment
