    Grass on the road

People mowing grass and throwing it on the street, road or highway.

I've heard many motorcyclists complain about this and have heard it's actually illegal in some places.

Today I witnessed two people , one in a car and other in a truck raising h3ll with a guy mowing on a two lane highway .
I drove by just as sheriff was pulling up, the guy in the truck was warning traffic in the direction I was going to the guy throwing grass and rocks onto road..

He told me to watch out. The guy had thrown rocks and grass into his truck and the car on the other end of this mess.

When I drove by the sheriff was talking to the guy still sitting in his mower, I could see about a fifty foot section with lots of two to three inch rocks on the road.

The guy on the mower had every safety device on, orange hard hat, orange ear muffs and orange reflective vest...
But he just had the look of a jerk.

I personally hope he got his arse handed to him, by the people's who's vehicles he hit with rocks and by the sheriff..by the way.... he threw a lot of grass on the road , it was ridiculous, half way across the road and every bit of three to four inches, and on the lane furthest from him an inch at least.

Yes, it's one more hazard to remember .... It's a mind-numbing job on the highways and maybe the Right Stuff is not always in the cockpit of a mower ... But the hazards are well-known and here, the law is to slow down 60-70 kmh if you meet one . Usually there's warning signage too...I guess the mowers should be the reel-type - and usually are here. A rotary mower on the shoulder or even on a central boulevard would be a hazrd.

Life is full of all kinds of hazards...right, wrong, illegal, or legal... just something else we've got to look out for. Good luck & be careful.

I've encountered this many times in my riding and never been a problem, sure I thought the mower operator could have made a couple passes throwing grass opposite of the road then mowed as they wanted?

Highway workers are not doing this, not in my area any way..

It's just property owners and farmers,

Like I said this was the worst case of it I've ever seen..

Literally three to four inches of grass on roadway, and a section fifty foot long where the road was covered with rock.

          Bad deal,

The operator of the mower needed more training and should be reported for causing a hazard.
I agree with making passes starting on the edge of the road way with the outlet chute facing in toward the center of the grass divider section and away from the road.

I was telling this story to a guy that works on a farm that I'm currently doing a work project and he starts to tell me a story of his own involving grass on road.

Just a year or so ago a well known older guy (called him ted) from the area had met a women through his daughter.

Ted sold everything and moved in with this woman, thirty miles north of this place.

Just months after moving ted complained and called sheriff about his neighbor mowing and throwing grass on the highway.

This happened several times, then one day ted was riding his small tractor from one end of his property to the other...and on the highway.

The guy ted had called sheriff was the one who hit ted with a truck..killing ted.

Some say it wasn't an accident, ???
