Good morning and Happy New Year everyone!
I've finally got around to reorganising the garage and the GS550 is now in the "working" area!
I still can't find any sign of the igniter box.
Photo of under the right side engine/crank case attached - should I be able to move one side of what that spring is attached to?
Anyway, a different approach might be for me to list my issues and then maybe someone can point me in the right direction.
1) Bike starts readily enough. I started it this morning using a remote tank - petrol tank removed and therefore (vacuum?) hole on the top of the carbs open.
2) It won't rev above about 3k.
3) To my mind, it is running hot - at least it appears hotter than other bikes I've owned.
4) Brand new Delkevic exhaust system fitted. In "road" standard, so baffle in place.
5) I would say that the bike ran hot and didn't really rev out before I swapped the original exhaust for the Delkevic. By the way, if your wondering why I changed it, the original left side disintegrated when I removed it to get to the rear wheel axle!
6) New air filter fitted, but issue remains whether or not the filter is present.
Any pointers would be much appreciated and apologies for taking so long to pick up the thread.
Thanks.

The ignitor is somewhere around the airbox. You might want to remove both side covers and the chain guard, that should provide enough vewing room to find it.Ed

Huzzah, found it!
Steering me to look past the chain guard is wot dun it. It is attached to the underside of the air filter housing - sincere apologies if someone had suggested this to me previously, but I was too daft to understand.
Next question, would a dodgy igniter box cause my symptoms?
Thanks again.Comment

Thanks to all for your replies.
Looks like my non revving above 3k issue was down to a stiff advance/retard mechanism - ie it wasn't working as it should.Last edited by Gr8uncleal; 03-09-2025, 11:26 AM.Comment
