Rusty, please post the final result for the Chrysler alternator. I'm trying to recall the years which use a PCM based voltage regulator but can't recall which ones can live with a modification to use an external one. We used to install an external on some of the early Chrysler products which worked well enough and saved changing the PCM for people short of money. The only issue I can recall is that the PCM would no longer speed up the idle when voltage was low. Some others wouldn't allow the external regulator to be use, but can't recall why....

Hoping you will fill in the blanks and maybe I will remember after this....

    Thanks,,
    Norm

Alternator is good, B+ from battery to alt is good, the wire to the field circuit measures okay (battery is disconnected). looks like the wire from the PCM to the alt could be open or possibly a driver (transistor) issue with the PCM. I need to disconnect the harness at the PCM and check it. (power is fed to the field and the PCM grounds the circuit)

If it's an issue with the PCM, I might have to rig up an external regulator for the field circuit.

Last night I mounted my stainless brake line, started the speedo cable mounting, and glued the seat foam together ready to duck up the road and get a quote on a cover today if I get time.

        Suzuki 1978 GS1000E

Finished reassemble after carb sync. New plugs. Test drive was great, a little cool at 45 degrees, but good. Bike runs great. If anyone knows where I can get a seat cover for my GS1000E step up seat, please let me know.
        Thanks, Steve.

CBR400R, mounted aftermarket fuel pump, pressure 5-1/2 PSI+ which floods carbs. so installed a pressure regulator. All seems well & ready to button it up but now the fuel inlet tube is leaking at the left inside carb. so now to split the carbs. and replace the "O" rings.

Then pull & reseal the differential carrier from my wife's 1976 MG Midget. No glory stuff but keeps me out of trouble.

Norm, this intrepid is one of those that could have an issue with the PCM. if it is the PCM which is the root cause of the no charging issue, it will get an external regulator installed. it's already part of 'the plan'.

measuring voltage and checking resistances on the intrepid is one of many things on today's too do list.

Continued shaping the seat foam, bought and mounted the breather filter, put the new fuel tap on the tank, and got the carb overflow hoses routed.

Do you mean... need to borrow a sewing machine, buy some marine vinyl, cut out a pattern and make my own seat cover?

                        Good morning yaself Dale... haha

That's a negatory on the borrow a sewing machine deal... it'll be off to the upholsterers for that bit

I managed to fail home economics in grade 8 at high school and the one item I attempted to sew... well... let's just say it didn't go very well... and yes I burnt the scrambled eggs as well

It was compulsory for us along with typing... turned out I was really good at typing, go figure

I'd love to be able to do it myself but I just know it will look like crap... so that means two things out of my rebuild won't be done by me, exhaust and seat cover... I can cope with that

Edit: hahaha missed your last line there... me neither! I didn't need her to teach me how to cook burnt steak with soggy mashed potatoes

I finally figured out how to get in to these larger threads.

Getting Steve to help me with my bike was awesome!! He really knows his bikes.

We actually got more done than he listed....here is my other post under the project thread:

"Steve was kind enough to swing by my place this weekend to give me a hand.

During his visit we (mostly he):

                              1) Checked valve clearance and adjusted, as needed. This also took care of the leaky valve cover gasket and cam caps.

                              2) Put the 4 in to 1 back on.

                              3) Synced the carbs.

                              4) Pulled the clutch basket and inspected, replaced springs and snugged everything up.

                              5) Adjusted clutch cable.

                              6) Replaced choke cable.

What a great learning experience.....Steve gave me lots of good tips for my upcoming tasks.

Thanks Steve, it was much appreciated and a pleasure!! "

                              Thanks again, Steve
