Spent HOURS at Home Depot. 18 bolts and 15 purchases later, I still have no ****ing bolt that fits those two threaded holes on the frame above the headers. That's really the only spot big enough to mount a wolo badboy/stebel horn on my bike.
While looking to see how others mount it(, I saw where the original horn is mounted(My metal tab is broken). I think I'll just go get one of those metal straps and hope that is durable enough to hold it. :/

And god damn this thing is obnoxious! Can't wait for the first person to **** me off.

Save yourself some time Monty and go by Ace Hardware. Pick up their plastic bolt sizing tool, stick the one end in the hold to get the size, and then use a thread pitch gauge to determine the right pitch.

I think the PO cross threaded it. That and rust. I bought a tap or whatever to rethread it, but I think this will be easier, and I'll be able to get it tighter, since I will have a nut to tighten.

Assembled the new dash with the nuts just done up lightly for the moment, seems to go together well, but have run out of insulated spade crimp terminals to do any of the relay wiring.

Got a die and tap set and finally got that damn horn mounted. It was a lot easier than I was expecting to get it rethreaded! Went out riding after I got it mounted and was kinda sad I didn't get to honk at any idiots out.

Dang, I really need to get a trailer. http://spokane.craigslist.org/mcy/2958375246.html
Been looking for a bigger bike to do some trips with the wife and this looks like an awesome price. I just don't want to make a 2 hour trip on a new to me bike that runs rough.
Edit: Actually, I guess a garage would be best first.

valve cover gasket on my 1980 GS1000G

I had a niggling little leak and finally got around to doing the job. If I had realized how easy this is I would have done it a couple of months ago. Got the gasket for $12.95 delivered. While I was at it, I put on my NOS set of Kerker chrome 4 into 1 pipes. It may be the altitude here but I didn't have to even re-jet the carbs. Looks like a different bike now. A dear friend had these pipes in his attic for 31 years and gave them to me when he saw my bike. Absolutely refused to take any payment for them. What a great guy. So now I can send my originals out for a polishing and re-chroming without grounding my bike. Sometimes things come together nicely I guess. No leaks in that valve cover casket either! A great day of wrenching followed by a nice if short ride this evening. Perfect.

Two nights of wrenching for me... got the new dash mounted and wired in last night so it got its first test run to work and back today. So far so good! It's nice to have my gear position indicator back and I now have a voltage monitor too! It's orange here because the ignition is on but the engine's not running...

And tonight I started making a valve cover breather catch tank as I'm sick of the little bit of blow-by dripping from the breather filter I have strapped up under the tank making a big mess...

My new Wolo horn has paid itself off. Had a guy pass people in the turning lane, then come and try to force me out of my lane. I got on the horn, he freaked out and ran into the concrete barrier for the turn lane(Like 3 inches high? Basically a curb). Well, he hit pretty hard then freaked out in his car infront of me. It was actually pretty amusing. I think he will think twice next time he makes a lane change or tries to merge.

It was awesome. I was laughing so hard, which made him rage in his car more. Best purchase. Was a pain getting it installed(Stripped holes on my bike) and its huge, but as long as it doesn't get flattened, I'm happy.

Great story Monty! I'd pay to watch footage of that.

Pete, that gauge is secksay! Me gusta.

Gah. My centerstand foot peg thing just snapped off. Are Bike Bandits part numbers, suzuki part numbers? I would guess that most center stands would be easily swappable, but Bike Bandit has different part numbers. I can't find any center stands for my bike and ebay is being a pile of crap and not loading.

Thanks mate! Very happy with how it turned out, and that Acewell is just perfect for what I wanted...

Forget Bike Bandit for part numbers, use Alpha Sports instead. They're a bit expensive price wise but they have the best online fiche...

Oh, and I kept going with the breather catch tank tonight, got the fittings and tap in, so just need to mask off and paint then fit the perspex end caps and mount it up.
