      Austin TX motorcycle rental

Flew down to Austin yesterday to hang out with friends and do a little riding. Rented a 2015 FZ-09 from Riders-Share. Landed at AUS at 10 am and was pulling out of the owners driveway in Leander TX at 11:30. Had a nice couple of hours ride getting to my Dripping Springs base camp. No pictures to speak of.

Today GrooveDaddy (Robin) and put in about 200 miles of fun scenic TX hill country back roads. There's some decent riding down here. But even when the roads aren't twisty, the scenery is pretty amazing. Very different from Middle Tennessee.

Tomorrow we're supposed to ride out to the Twisted Sister, or Three Sisters or whatever they call it (LINK). Will try to get a few pics.

Here a shot of the bike and some representative scenery

Some more scenery. That's someone's dam driveway!

Will be much better than what you saw today.

I asked what "FM" meant, and they said "Fhaaamtahmahhkha".

Other places the road signs looked the same but was a "RR". I figured out what that meant, it means when going around a blind curve there will be gaps in the pavement with metal pipes in part of the gap.

Do stop at the "Motorcycle Stop" in Leaky.

$350.25 for the 3 day rental all in. That's $116.75/per day. The bike is listed at $55/day but I also took the full coverage insurance (accident or theft) with $1000 deductible and roadside assistance, plus the site charges a fee. To me that's a pretty good deal.

Ron, most of those bikes were Japanese cruisers, you know, wannabees. Stay tuned for further details in a new thread about my trip to Az. It got kinda crazy.

Twice I rented Harleys in the Caribbean. $99/day for any bike, but $49/day for a Sportster, which is the only Harley I'd be caught dead on. All insurance, etc., (plus two helmets) included.

First time was the two-tone 883 Superlow, which I fell in love with and bought. Second time was an Iron 883, but it wasn't ready the first day so I rode a Street 750. Fastest, but least favorite of all.

The Superlow next to a clown car:

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

Well let's put it this way: the first and second pictures are completely accurate. The third pic? I wasn't there, she sent it to me (I paid for the bathing suit, though). I never said she did more than ride with me, but that was enough.

One night we had dinner right next to a casino. It was just down the road a ways, so we dispensed with the helmets. After the meal, she said she wanted to run into the casino to change some money. I said fine, I'll get the bike.

I rode right up to the door of the casino, this gorgeous blonde comes running out, jumps on the back of my Harley, and we roar off. I was 59 years old, and starting to feel the dread of the coming decade. I looked up and thanked the powers that be.
