Been cold latley and rainy at times, so havent riden much latley.
Last evening, I told myslef "if its over 50 , I am riding."
I looked and it was right at 50.
Well, OKay, Went anyway.
Even with knowing it will be colder by the lake and after sunset.
Went for little ride further out of town, and then down by beach/pier about sunset time. Walked around on the beach with camera for sunset time.
After sunset, rode into town ...stopped for a couple ProntoPups cuz was about no line .. and then home.
I was a bit cold by then, I shoulda had the heavier jacket and gloves. But was good to get out on the bike.

Seems like I've been doing nothing but work on various projects this spring. Then if I had an extra bit of time the weather was cold or wet. Most of my rides, I can remember contemplating whether I should break out the snowmobile pants or not. Sweet therapy today though, I dedicated a couple hours and a tank of gas to just enjoying the ride and nothing else. therapist.jpg1986 1150EF

Rode the Bike of The Month (my crowning achievement!) bike to Manning Park, BC yesterday. It's a challenge to hang with the modern sportbike gang!

Let's see if i still remember how to do this. Took a ride through southern Ohio on Sunday to stay at a motel in St. Clairsville so I could have some fun in West Virginia. As always, state routes 56, 278, and 78 did not disappoint me but the real excitement was riding down US 250 on Monday. If you haven't had a chance to do that road then you must make time to start it in Wheeling and head south. Construction at the start of 250 caused the GPS to warn of a road closure which I easily navigated around but the GPS kept telling me that all of 250 was closed. I swore for about ten miles the GPS got mixed up thanks to the construction only to find, after ignoring the last detour warning, that the road was indeed closed thanks to a downed power line. Fortunately, the sheriff and a local person advised me to go back to where the GPS said to last turn and swing down and around the issues. From then on I had the road mostly to myself until lunch time. Of course, had i more time I would have done the full route but sadly I had to cut west on US 50 if I wanted to get home at any decent hour. Which I did about 830 Monday night with 714 miles for the weekend and 400 of them on Sunday alone.
Some pictures using my new to me camera:
Anyone want a pumpkin? I've lived here 13 years now and ridden by this mural in Circleville OH countless times yet only this weekend finally stopped to take a picture of it

Had to channel my inner Redman later on OH-278. I missed a side road by just that much as I slowed and stopped to get off the road so the tire is pretty close to the line but fortunately I didn't get hit by anyone

After settling into the hotel and having a mediocre steak in St. Clairsville (don't they know what seasoning is?), I rode over to see the Wheeling Suspension Bridge built in 1849 and was the longest one of its kind for many many moons.

I went back the next morning for a daytime picture and noticed they were setting up for a Memorial Day service. Sadly I didn't have the time to stay for it like I would have liked.

I'm home from my road trip out west. 5,454 total miles.
Apparently I left Ohio just before the rainy cold weather set in. I left Saturday May 17th
The first leg of my journey was uneventful. Cooler but no rain. I made it to Terra Haute Indiana
The second day, I decided to dip south to avoid Kansas and thunderstorms. As I was approaching Joplin Missouri I was heading right into a wall of black clouds! I cut the day short checked into a hotel to let the storms pass by.
I woke up early to nice weather, well, except for a strong headwind heading west across Oklahoma. I had a great meal and fun time at the BIG TEXAS STEAKHOUSE in Amarillo.
I made it to my brother's house in Divide Colorado in time to make it to my nieces high school graduation dinner, that was nice.
The next morning we packed up and we're heading towards Arizona. Taking the back way cutting across the northern part of New Mexico. Rt. 64 Taos, Tierra Amarilla spending the night in Farmington New Mexico.
The next day was a big day!
The morning was pretty uneventful. Heading south across the New Mexico desert. Jump on interstate 40 a few miles till we hit Arizona rt 191 !!! 191 is like the Tail of the Dragon except it's about 125 miles longer!
We headed back into New Mexico, we spent the night in Silver City. It was a long day and I was beat!
It was nice to know we had a short day of riding to our cousins house in Sierra Vista Arizona...
Then it happened. Cruising west on interstate 10 I saw something on the highway. I steared around it but somehow it kicked up and caught my exhaust, putting a nice sized gouge in the down pipe. See picture below.
Nursing the motorcycle 100 miles to my cousins house for repair.
The repair.
The first attempt was a "muffler wrap" it was a white gauze saturated in a cement compound... It lasted 50 miles at best.
Second attempt was a gray puddy... it lasted 300 miles. On the right track.
Third attempt, I used J. B. weld. The stuff you have to kneed together. It worked for the rest of the trip!!
Leaving Sierra Vista, brother and I spent our last evening together in Albuquerque. In the morning he went north to Colorado, I went east towards Ohio.
I did stop for Ribs at Charlie Vergo's Rendezvous in Memphis. I also picked up 4 jars of their seasoning.
Wanting to get home to have a couple of days of relaxation before I had to go back to work, I made a bee-line for home.
All in all, it was a fun trip. However I told my cousin I'm not sure how many of these motorcycle rides I'm going to be able to make... I'm thinking a 72 Cadillac convertible or a cool Buick Rivera...

Sounds like it was a great trip, Norm. Rest up. I'll see you in 2 weeks. I'm taking off all day Wednesday June18, so going to take a slow, scenic route across PA. If you have any areas/roads you like to ride through central to north-western PA, let me know. I haven't planned my route yet.

After weeks of 45degF and 55degF and rainy days, so not riding much.
But Tuesday looked good on the weather forcast, so I said that was gonna be a day for a ride.
And it turned out to be 85 degrees.
Just picked a town on the map, and headed north for a late lunch.
THen went along the lakeshore, and stopped at this intersting old brick lighthouse.... and I was surprised that it was open for going inside.
THe sticker says most of it:
Could also say 130 steps, 110 ft tall, and could say was 30+mph winds up there on that walk around platform.
Was out for about 5 hours. (on the late morning-afternoon ride, not out on the tower platform for 5 hours)
That evening I took the GK to local beach/pier for a ship comming in about sunset time.
Was a good day.Last edited by Redman; Yesterday, 08:36 AM.http://webpages.charter.net/ddvrnr/GS850_1100_Emblems.jpg

Pulled GK out of garage this afternoon.
82 GK, I have had since 2006.
.
Oh, crap, look at that, on right side bag....
43 years old, and somehow somewhere got its first major scratch.
Yikes, am trying not to be bothered by it. . . . . but . . . .
Maybe, slight chance I did that pulling it out along next to the RT....
But doesnt really match up to any thing on the RT...
Maybe happened in parking lot at beach/pier the other evening. ANgle parking and I parked to the left of a bike sharing a space, and so I was kinda close to the yellow line.
When I came back, the bike was gone and so was car next to me. Maybe when that car backed out they cut the wheel too soon.
Seems like scratch into it, and stuff ground/transfered into the surface.
