Hi All,

I'm thinking of buying a GoPro Hero 5 to use on an upcoming vacation in CA, but I will also want to make videos of my rides on my 850. After watching a few videos on Youtube, I think I've concluded that the "chest mount" yields the nicest videos as it captures some of the controls and instruments for reference, but not enough to block the view ahead. It seems as though it would also help reduce vibration. Does anyone have any videos they've taken on their bikes, and specifically using the chest mount?

I have a strap mount thing but it may be for a hat. Not sure I'd want the camera on my chest since if (or when) I go down it may be very unpleasant to land on.

Yes, the chest cam has the least vibration, IMO.... however it can be difficult to maintain the right angle if your bars are lower-camera needs to hang off and thereby moves more.....consider a "knee cam" or a lower-leg cam too, though you won't see instruments, and a bit more vibration, it's closer to the road and gives a different view....
it can be easily swapped around to face rear too. I bought a cheaposhort little plastic tripod really, just for the mount nut and angle adjustment...and fit to a strap to use various places...defies description but you'll have fun figuring it out

I mount mine on the left handlebar, and it gives me just enough clearance to see the gauges. Here's a video from the Snake a few years ago, just my VMAX eating up at Buell. LOL.

I liked the track day video, lot's of fun I bet. Compared to actual club practice sessions the passing seems to be very ......let's just say very polite. LOL. Here's one taken on my 750. GoPro was mounted to the base of the left hand mirror and is quite less than ideal. A lot of motorcycle induced vibration causing rolling shutter. Video was stabilized but still a fair bit of it, especially if the revs or throttle got up to anything near usable like you see around 3:08. Dampened or body mounting seems to be the best way to go unless the bike is super smooth.
