    Gs 1100

    I own 7 bikes now, 1 1978 GS 1000. I have a friend that has a GS 1100, good condition asking $1000. I think it's a good buy, opinions?

We need more info, but if it is a complete 1100E then maybe or could be. Complete running 1100G then maybe or could be.

Sorry, that's all I know other than has a vetter faring. Owned by a former high School friend. I read they put out 105 hp. My 78 1000 runs like a raped ape!

As gsrick hinted, we really need to know which model of the 1100 it is. There were TWO very distinct, very different versions.

The 1100E (and 1100L) started in 1980, it was a 16-valve engine that did put out a bunch of power. I don't know if it was 105 from the factory or not, but it's certainly capable of reaching that number easily.

The 1100G (and 1100GL) came in 1982. Basically just a puched-out version of the 1000G, but it was a bit more tame, with it's 8-valve head.

The fact that it has a Vetter fairing (or any other fairing) on it hints that it might be the G model. There are two quick ways to tell which bike it is:
1: Look at the valve cover end caps. Are they round or rectangular? The round ones would be the same as the ones on your '78. That would be the 1100G. If they are rectangular, that would be the 1100E, with 16 valves.
2: Look at the left side of the swingarm. Is there a chain or a driveshaft? Chain is E, shaft is G.

The GS 1100 is a G, 13000 miles, shaft drive. I haven't seen it. Possible valve in NE?
