Things were going well until we arrived in Austin No and I dumped the hack on a rock and put a hole in my stator cover. A real hokie fix with gas tank repair kit and blue rev gasket maker and have turned back home with no real hope of a fix on what was left of the trip. Over 1000 miles into the trip with over 600 to return home.

If I would have had them they would have been on. Am now at Charlie’s after having a great meal out. Will chronicle the trip as soon as I can. Not a bad thing that we turned around, the wife hit an elk this evening around 7, she is ok but it has been a bad week of bad things happening.

You're not the guy that needs advice but one thing that can be super-duper for such mishaps is Real Duct tape-it's actually metal, with glue on the back.It'll be found where ever real duct pipe is ..on a cleaned engine surface I had a large 2" hole in valve cover and it worked Later, I patched with jbweld using the tape for a backstop and it's still going strongLast edited by Gorminrider; 07-26-2019, 09:07 AM.Comment

Just an update. As you know I had to call the trip a bit short to only 1600 miles, troubles at home as well as on the road.
I got a call this week from a fellow I haven't seen for 3 years and he was going to drop by on Friday. I remembered that he rode GS 1000s and asked him if he had any stator covers, he said that he would look. Steve shows up with a new old stock cover that fits and he doesn't want any money for it. Good on you Steve, gotta love Karma.
Will be replacing the swing arm to something more robust and upgrading the fork springs on the bike as well.
