Well, I <have> met you, so I feel qualified to say ... Maybe. Probably.

No, but I am enjoying all the comments from the others about them.

Well, gaining a project does change the parameters a bit. That HD isn't that bad of a foundation for a project either. Thing is, as I stated before, they just aren't worth much. Even built up, and pretty. It has a few things to address immediately, like the bars, and forks. That entails all new cables, and lines. (you may get lucky, and he has some of the OE parts) At least they got rid of that ridiculous "peanut tank", that's a big plus. The pipes aren't a bad thing, as most people that may buy it from YOU, would dig the way it sounds. If it's 1000 Iron Head, used engine performance parts are plentiful, and fairly cheap. You can make it pretty fast with just a bumpy cam upgrade. Pretty easy to work on too. It really comes down to you. Is it the project you're looking for?

Owned '78 Ironhead for about 15 years. Liked it. Wife and I did our first date on it.
Rode it to Sturgis for the 50th, straight through from the Chicago 'burbs. Had a ball.
They can be dependable, just a little fiddly, but simple, very simple. And I like that.
        At Mt. Rushmore:

When I sold it, (for more than I paid for it)

And some little details I added

        Choke Knob

Probably never get another, but I don't regret my time with it.

It is a 1000cc. I like the idea of forward controls since I have long legs with old knees that don't like to be bent. As for the seat, I'll look for something similar to Baatfam's since the wife likes to ride too (If I go through with it). I'll be looking at it this afternoon.

I just spoke to (Then Came) Bronson. He approves.

If you're just looking for a project the Sportster will end up costing you more out of pocket by the time you're ready for the next project after that. There's plenty of other bikes that will cost less in the end, stick with rice if money is a concern!

Harley haters abound on this forum. Whatever makes you happy...do it. As long as you're still riding.
