    Yep, very true, they are most definitely quite susceptible to the sale to upgrade choice! I'm one of the odd ones out like yourself there

    Mind you I'm thinking of doing that very thing at the moment, but that's a different story...

    Back on topic, yes, I'm only repeating what I've heard as possible reasons why they're not so prevalent, and it most definitely differs country to country too. The Katanas are a perfect example where they just didn't get all that popular in the US, and my understanding is they're more popular now as a classic than they were when they were new.

      I opened a account on Reddit (SUZUKIGSX400SRESTORE) and my question was answered this morning.
      I am going to get the 81 GSX400 service manual printed tomorrow and order a supplementary manual soon.
