    New 85 GS700ES rims?

    Hi friends,

Looking for some new mags for my 85 700. I like the look of this Kevin Schwantz racer. Any idea what these rims are. Racking my brain looking around forum for these mags or ideas on lighter mags. Any help or direction would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Bear in mind, Yoshimura changed out the 16" front wheel for an 18" front wheel for more stability at high speed. This slowed the steering down considerably. At track speeds, stability was deemed more important than ultra-fast steering. At road speeds, maybe not so much.

You will have a hard time finding any 16" front aftermarket rims. I doubt they were even made during the 3 to 4 year period when 16" front wheels were in vogue (1983-1986).

Go with some 17's front and rear. You'll probably find some late model stuff that look like those if you look around. Might find some dymags that somebody has stashed away somewhere....

'84-'88 Honda VF500F wheels are 16"/18" and have been known to be painted/coated in gold to copy Dymags.

Is it gonna be a race bike? The vf500f wheels do look the part, might be a hassle to make them fit? Are there any really good 16in front tires?

Pirelli Sport Demons are still available in the stock GS700 sizes. That is what my bike wears.

I'm on my 2nd combination of radial 17's wheel and fork/swingarm set-up. I haven't had a 16 front tire on mine for many years....

Same wheel bearings, the width of forks and the brake rotors may be different. One off axle and spacers, and custom caliper mounts could solve any problems with that. I used compatable entire fork assemblies in my mods.
